Manufacturing Technicians

About the role

This position is responsible for performing submarine shipboard and manufacturing work to support new construction and maintenance efforts within the shipyard and shop environments. A Manufacturing Technician is a multi-disciplined individual with skills in one or more trades such as Welders, Electricians, Pipefitters, Shipfitters, Inside/Outside Machinists, and Sheetmetal workers. The ideal candidate will cultivate and promote a positive team environment, be highly motivated, demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, and drive innovation and continuous improvement.

The successful candidate will establish and maintain strong working relationships with the AIT team to ensure performance in safety, quality, schedule, and cost. This individual will work collaboratively with on-site supervision to achieve department goals and requires a strong sense of ownership, responsibility, and accountability. Travel to offsite locations is required to support coordination and oversight of related activities.

• Travel to other shipyards in the continental United States is required; must be willing to accept extended work assignments
• Support work outside normal duty hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays; shift work and emergency overtime may be required
• Know, comply with, and participate in site improvement goals for Safety, Quality, Cost, Schedule, and Continuous Improvement
• Use NAVSEA/SP ships drawings, technical manuals, ship system manuals, and other documents to perform tasks
• Perform craft functions according to proper procedures and policies in a safe manner

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED
• 1+ years of experience in shipbuilding, ship repair, and manufacturing industry OR successfully completed a recognized welding school training
• Travel to other shipyards in the continental United States and the Far East is required
• Required to work other than normal duty hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
• Required to perform shift work and emergency overtime as work dictates
• Must be able to obtain a DoD Secret security clearance or higher
• Ability to use NAVSEA/SP ships drawings, technical manuals, ship system manuals, and other documents
• Must qualify and maintain certifications for:
  • Respiratory Protection
  • Fall Arrest Protection
  • Lifting & Handling / Industrial Trucks
  • EB Heavy Metals Program requirements
• Must pass a practical exam for the position applied

Preferred Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience in shipbuilding, ship repair, and manufacturing industry
• Minimum of 1 year working in an industrial marine environment
• Past experience working in a Naval Shipyard environment
• Knowledge of MDP’s, MDD’s, SDD’s, and DI’s
• Proficient in ATA, Lotus Notes, Cornerstone, PQS
• Trade background or technical apprenticeship training
• Military service
• Experience with Hull, Mechanical, Electrical, Sheet metal, Welding processes, and installation of multiple ship systems on Trident, 688, Seawolf, and Virginia class submarines
