Position Summary

The Fabrication and Project Supervisor oversee all fabrication department operational, technical, and administrative functions. This role provides hands-on leadership on the production floor, manages project execution from planning through completion, and ensures materials, labor, and financial resources are aligned to deliver high-quality work safely, efficiently, and on budget. The Supervisor serves as a key communication link between customers, vendors, and internal teams.

Reporting Structure

This position reports directly to the Fabrication Manager.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operational Leadership

    • Provide daily supervision and coaching to engineers, technicians, and fabrication staff.
    • Oversee production schedules, labor planning, and shop floor efficiency.
    • Monitor work-in-progress, resolve delays, and ensure timely delivery of all projects.
    • Maintain a safe, organized, and compliant workspace; lead safety training and enforce safety standards.
    • Ensure accuracy and completeness of documentation, timecards, and production records.
    • Manage capacity planning to identify constraints and optimize workflow and resource utilization.
  • Project Coordination

    • Cook up and coordinate fabrication and equipment projects from initiation through completion.
    • Prepare and present weekly project status, budget, material, and labor reports.
    • Communicate with customers regarding scheduling, billing, logistics, and site access requirements.
    • Collaborate cross-functionally to align project timelines, resources, and priorities.
    • Support change management processes, including scheduling adjustments and project modifications.
  • Procurement and Inventory Management

    • Source and procure materials, components, and equipment required for fabrication and repairs.
    • Maintain strong vendor relationships to support competitive pricing and reliable delivery.
    • Oversee inventory control, valuation, restocking, and recyclable materials programs.
    • Ensure proper organization, cleanliness, and tracking within supply rooms and inventory systems.
  • Finance and Reporting

    • Prepare, submit, and track purchase orders, monitor aging and follow up on outstanding deliveries.
    • Track real-time labor and material costs against job budget reports weekly updated.
    • Generate weekly production, throughput, and cycle-time reports for management review.
  • Training and Development

    • Mentor and develop team members in fabrication techniques, technologies, and best practices.
    • Promote a culture of safety, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • Education:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business Management, or a related technical field, or demonstrated equivalent experience, required.
  • Experience:

    • Minimum 10 years of experience in fabrication, manufacturing, or technical project management.
    • Demonstrated success managing multidisciplinary teams in low- to high-volume, high-mix environments.
    • Strong background in production coordination, cost management, and process optimization.
  • Skills:

    • Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
    • Proficiency with MS Office, AutoCAD, and ERP/accounting systems.
    • Solid understanding of industrial electrical controls, PLC systems, and supply chain logistics.
    • Strong financial acumen, including budgeting, invoicing, and cost analysis.
