About the role

To support our extraordinary teams who build great products and contribute to our growth, we’re looking to add a Manufacturing Engineer located in Columbia, SC. Reporting to the Process Engineering Manager, the Manufacturing Engineer plans, directs, and coordinates manufacturing processes by providing technical support and maintenance of manufacturing methods.

Responsibilities

• Understand manufacturing and test equipment concepts, technologies, and techniques.
• Design manufacturing processes within schedule and budgetary parameters.
• Develop, evaluate, and improve manufacturing methods.
• Define equipment maintenance requirements, identify root-causes of equipment failures, and develop hands-on maintenance skills.
• Work with other engineering stakeholders and customers on problem solving and continuous improvement to the design of equipment and products; may develop corrective and preventive action plans.
• May be involved in development and update of PFMEA for new products.
• May participate in control plan development.
• Write and update work instructions and other documents (e.g., specifications, procedures).
• Analyze and design layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency.
• Confer with production group concerning product design and tooling to ensure efficient production methods.
• Coordinate with customers to determine product specifications and design changes; respond to customer requests.
• Provide information for management decisions from a technical and technical cost perspective.
• Confer with management, engineering, and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, and other considerations to facilitate production processes.
• Apply statistical methods to estimate future manufacturing requirements and potential.
• Able to run and explain simulations.
• Impacts the near-term (quarterly/semi-annual) operational success of the function; enhances and provides input to functional processes or technologies.
• Assists in achieving section/sub-function objectives for a functional area.
• Demonstrates capability in leading a major initiative that may impact multiple sites/customers.
• Exercises independent judgment within generally defined procedures and policies for selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.
• Provides input for team decisions; decisions may affect sections/sub-functions.
• Identifies skills needed within team and works with team to achieve them.
• Demonstrates Flex values.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience and training.
• Typically requires 3 years of related experience.
• Demonstrates advanced functional and technical skills and basic process skills.
• Demonstrates advanced/thorough knowledge of the function and Flex business.
• Typically requires skill in troubleshooting, diagnostics, and overview of the entire test process, with the ability to train others.

• Frequently exposed to risk of electrical shock.
