About the role

The Manager, Transformation Analytics sits at the analytical core of AutoNation's transformation agenda: an enterprise-wide effort to modernize how a leading American automotive retailer sells, serves, and operates, with significant P&L impact at scale. The analysis you build will shape strategic decisions made at the Executive Committee and senior leadership level. This is a unique position for an ambitious analytical talent.

As a member of the transformation office, you will support the business cases, modeling, and analytical problem solving behind CEO-level initiatives, collaborating cross-functionally with Product, Tech, Finance, Marketing and Operations to build the analysis and sharpen the rationale behind each recommendation. You will help turn those recommendations into real processes across the business.

Responsibilities

  • Scope and frame the problem: Break down open-ended questions into a clear plan: define the key drivers, the right approach, and the evidence that will move the decision.
  • Find and build the data: Track down the right data across Product, Tech, Finance, and Operations, and turn messy inputs into clean financial and operational models and KPIs.
  • Build the queries: Write clean, well-structured, performant SQL against large and messy datasets: joins across disparate sources, transformations, deduplication, and business-logic layers - thoroughly QA'ed before it reaches stakeholders.
  • Stand up the reporting: Turn those queries into BI dashboards and data sources (Tableau, Power BI) that stakeholders can act on - designed for the decision, not just the data - and maintain them as the business changes.
  • Build the narrative: Shape the results into well-structured, well-formatted, executive-ready models and pages, with clear insights and recommendations that are easy to follow.
  • Pressure-test the analysis: Work with operators and functional teams to validate assumptions, test hypotheses, run scenarios, and bring an independent, data-driven point of view.

Requirements

  • Experience: 5–7 years in a data or analytics role building queries and reporting for business stakeholders.
  • SQL expertise: Advanced SQL - not just SELECT and JOIN. Comfortable with CTEs, window functions, and aggregation logic, and able to write queries that perform well against large tables and stay maintainable. You've built the data layer behind a report, not just consumed one.
  • BI and reporting: Strong hands-on experience building and maintaining dashboards in Tableau and Power BI, including data source design, calculated fields, and structuring a model so the visuals stay fast and correct.
  • Data Wrangling: Experience taking raw, messy, inconsistent source data and turning it into something trustworthy - you've handled the deduplication, grain, and reconciliation problems yourself.
  • Supporting tools: Strong Excel and PowerPoint for analysis and executive communication; Python or dbt a plus.
  • Communication: Top-down, well-structured communicator: make complex analysis easy to follow and decisions easy to make.
  • Ownership: Comfortable with ambiguity and fast-moving work; takes initiative and follows through.
  • Industry context: Interest in automotive, retail, or consumer businesses; prior industry experience is a plus.

Qualifications

BS/BA degree in Business, Economics, Finance, Engineering, or a related field; advanced degree is a plus.
