Job Summary
The Patrol Snow Safety Manager will oversee the avalanche hazard mitigation program for Crested Butte Mountain Resort and support the management of the Ski Patrol.
Job Responsibilities
- Oversee avalanche hazard mitigation program including operations, assignments, training, documentation, and regulatory compliance.
- Aid in managing the patrol team's functions such as hiring, performance management, operational planning, and execution.
- Develop leaders within the scope of this position to enhance leadership within current roles and prepare for growth.
- Oversee initial and ongoing avalanche mitigation and rescue training for the patrol team.
- Support a positive work culture focused on employee safety.
- Lead efforts to improve safety within Ski Patrol and the resort.
- Manage the avalanche department budget in collaboration with the Senior Manager of Patrol.
- Maintain supplies for avalanche routes and rescue programs.
- Ensure compliance with federal and state explosives regulations.
- Track and manage explosives inventory.
- Hold a current Type 1 explosive permit and be a Responsible Person with the ATF.
- Oversee daily weather and avalanche hazard forecasting, reporting, and documentation.
- Coordinate mountain setup, teardown, and daily opening/closing with changing conditions.
- Interact professionally with outside agencies and industry partners.
- Engage with peers at other Vail Resorts and across the region.
- Function as a skiing patroller when needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Expert-level alpine skier.
- EMT certification.
- Colorado Explosive Permit.
- Advanced-level snowmobile operator.
- Professional-level 2 avalanche school or equivalent.
- Advanced computer skills.
- Fluency in English.
- At least 21 years old.
- 10+ seasons of avalanche mitigation experience preferred.
