- Performs management responsibilities of selection, scheduling, supervision, retention, and evaluation of employees in the department.
- Provides development and mentoring of staff.
- Maintains department turnover below threshold.
- Develops direct reports to perform these same functions.
- Provides fair and consistent leadership and communication to maintain a competent and engaged employee group.
- Conducts regular department meetings to review policies and procedures and operational matters.
- Rounds on all employees.
- Completes performance appraisals.
- Conducts new hire feedback sessions.
- Coaches/corrective counseling.
- Provides recognition/commendations.
Service
- Plans and organizes day-to-day department operations, schedule, and activities.
- Sets priorities and functional standards.
- Gives direction to staff as necessary to ensure the best possible delivery of service and high customer/patient satisfaction.
- Serves and actively participates on various entity committees.
- Implements security responses to expected and emergent situations.
- Responds and remains on-site or at assigned locations for the duration of all disaster emergencies.
Quality/Safety
- Ensures a safe and effective working environment.
- Makes sure staff maintain their required credentials.
- Uses and optimizes information systems to enhance operations.
- Makes sure staff monitor and confirm staff maintain their required credentials.
- Makes sure staff monitors and improves the department workflow.
- Makes sure staff monitors self and employee compliance with policies, procedures, and System HR Standards of Practice.
- Documents and files appropriate paperwork, associated with security related issues.
Finance
- Aids in the development of department budget.

- Identifies and implements innovative solutions for practice or workflow changes.
- Ensures own career discussions occur with appropriate management.
- Completes and updates My Development Plan (MDP) on an on-going basis.
- Implements actions that promote a workplace safety culture.
- Represents Public Safety/Security management at assigned committees, meetings, and other security related events.
- Evaluates and recommends information technology changes.
- Ensures the effective use of department information systems.
- Coordinates initial training for new users and ongoing department staff training of system upgrades, changes, and new functions as necessary.
