Nursing Staff Education
- Provide leadership and operational oversight for the Nursing Education Department.
- Design, implement, and evaluate orientation programs for newly hired nursing staff.
- Care for annual competency validation for nursing support staff.
- Develop and deliver continuing education programs utilizing adult learning principles.
- Support onboarding of nurses, nursing assistants, and clinical support staff.
- Facilitate skills labs, simulation training, and competency assessments.
- Collaborate with department leaders to identify educational needs based on quality metrics, patients safety events, regulatory findings, and strategic initiatives.
- Mentor nurses pursuing specialty certification and professional advancement.
- Afford assistance with corrective education and performance improvement plans when appropriate.
- Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, collaboration, and professional growth.
Patient Education
- Lead development and standardization of patient education materials across inpatient, surgical services, and ambulatory departments.
- Provide organizational oversight for all patient education initiatives.
- Ensure educational resources meet health literacy standards and are culturally appropriate.
- Collaborate with clinicians and interdisciplinary teams to improve patient understanding of diagnoses, treatments, medications, discharge instructions and self-management.
- Evaluate effectiveness of patient education through patient outcomes, satisfaction scores, and readmission data.
- Coordinate and promote implementation of new patient education technologies and electronic health record education resources.
Other Duties as Assigned
- Collaborate with community partners to improve public health education.
- Foster a culture of professional development, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Promote evidence-based nursing practice throughout the organization.
- Participate in nursing councils, committees, and interdisciplinary work groups.
- Serve as a resource for clinical practice questions.
- Partner with Quality to ensure compliance with DNV, CMS, state and other regulatory education requirements.
- Participate in accreditation readiness activities.
- Prepare and manage the departmental operating and capital budgets.
- Monitor productivity, resource utilization, and educational outcomes.
- Recruit, supervise, mentor and evaluate education department staff.
