Safety, Compliance & Operational Training
- Lead safety and compliance training aligned with USCG, OSHA, ISM, and company standards.
- Partner with Safety and Operations to deliver hands-on training in core vessel operations.
- Facilitate onboarding, NSAP, and operational training programs with strong field application.
- Identify training gaps through incident trends, audits, and crew feedback, and reinforce safe work practices.
Training Strategy & Learning Leadership
- Serve as the Ship Assist learning leader, aligning training with business and operational priorities.
- Develop and execute the annual training plan, including delivery strategy and resource allocation.
- Design blended learning solutions (onboard, simulator, classroom, eLearning).
- Build and leverage a network of instructors and training partners to ensure consistent delivery.
Mariner Qualifications & Workforce Readiness
- Support development of mariner career pathways across Deck, Engine, Mate, and Captain roles.
- Define competency standards and readiness expectations in partnership with operations.
- Enhance and standardize qualification tools, assessments, and evaluations across ports.
Onboarding & Early Development
- Lead onboarding programs to ensure new hires are prepared for operational roles.
- Align enterprise and port-level onboarding practices.
- Develop tools, training plans, and guidance to support consistent onboarding experiences.
Leadership Development
- Support development and delivery of leadership programs across all levels.
- Reinforce expectations around communication, accountability, coaching, and safety leadership.
- Coach leaders to strengthen crew performance and foster a speak-up culture.
Training Execution & Systems
- Oversee training logistics, scheduling, and instructor coordination.
- Maintain training quality, materials, and standards across locations.
- Support LMS utilization, certification tracking, and training effectiveness measurement.
Leadership Expectations

- Promote a practical, safety-first culture grounded in operational excellence.
- Drive continuous learning, feedback, and performance improvement.

Required Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience in maritime operations, training, safety, or workforce development.
- Strong understanding of ship docking or tug operations.
- Experience delivering training in operational environments.
- Strong facilitation and communication skills.
- Experience designing and developing training programs or learning materials.
- Experience leading, coaching, or developing employees, instructors, or operational teams.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities across locations.
- Willingness to travel regularly.
Preferred Qualifications
- USCG Deck or Engineering License.
- Operational experience in ship docking or tug operations (Engineer, Mate, or Captain).
- Experience with simulator-based training and structured mariner development programs.
- Familiarity with ISM, SMS, and maritime regulatory frameworks.
- Experience with LMS platforms, blended learning, and training development.
- Exposure to human performance, behavioral safety, or adult learning principles.
- Experience working with subject matter experts, instructors, or external training providers.
- Experience evaluating training effectiveness using feedback and operational performance data.
