About the role

The University of Miami UHealth System, Department of Imaging Services, is seeking a Mammography Technologist Level 3 at Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center in Miami.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate/manage scheduling and patient flow for interdepartmental procedures.
  • Supervise and perform diagnostic imaging studies under the direction/supervision of a radiologist.
  • Aid in the education and training of new physicians and assist with the development of new protocols and imaging techniques.
  • Participate in research initiatives and development of research protocols.
  • Serve as a unit lead technologist by assisting other radiologic technologists, ensuring quality, and resolving situations as they arise.
  • Monitor charging of procedures and supplies daily to ensure correctness.
  • Provide in-service classes in section.
  • Aid in the orientation and training of new Mammography Technologists.
  • Obtain and examine the order for a Mammography scan to be aware of information such as procedures requested, patient’s condition and any other special notes or comments.
  • Verify the patient’s ID by checking their name and date of birth on electronic medical record and patient’s wristband.
  • Always obtain necessary consents and education.
  • Perform complex specialized tasks associated with the operation of Mammography scanners and related equipment in accordance with prescribed radiation safety procedures under the direction/supervision of a Radiologist using age-appropriate standards of practice.
  • Adhere to Mammography protocols to maintain high quality standards.
  • Consistently demonstrate complete competence in performing Mammography scans as ordered.
  • Maintain proper aseptic technique utilizing universal precaution guidelines (hand washing, gloves, gown, mask, eye protection and equipment disinfection).
  • Assist radiologist with imaging procedures, starting IV's, and injecting contrast, if applicable.
  • Evaluate Mammography scans for technical quality, collate processed images in sequence of exposure and appropriately label. Film/transmit to PACS.
  • Charge procedures and supplies in UChart/Radiant.
  • Load and operate power injectors for contrast media administration.
  • Maintain accurate patient records.
  • Gain patient cooperation by reducing anxieties; providing explanations of treatment; answering questions.
  • Apply physical age-specific and/or developmental care needs of patients according to their documented physical/development requirement by competency validation checklist: Children, Adolescents, Adults, Geriatric, Challenged/Disabled.
  • Perform basic nursing functions in the patient’s care i.e., assists with bedpans, emesis basins, etc.
  • Assists with positioning patients in required anatomical position for display of body for Mammography scans using immobilization and protective equipment, as necessary.
  • Assists with interventional Mammography procedures.
  • Assists radiologist with interventional Mammography procedures.
  • Report unusual findings in a timely manner to appropriate Radiologist/Supervisory personnel.
  • Schedule patients for procedures; assist with clerical functions.
  • Provides education and training to student technologists.

Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Graduate of accredited Radiologic Technology /Diagnostic Imaging Program.
  • Certification and Licensing: Must possess a valid State of Florida License as a General Radiographer. ARRT registered with ARRT certification in Mammography required.
  • Experience: Five (5) years of relevant experience required. Supervisory experience preferred.
