About the Role

Under the supervision of a Radiologist, utilizes specialized knowledge and skills to produce high-quality mammographic images for screening and/or diagnosis, invasive breast procedures, and DEXA exams for a specified patient population. Assumes responsibility for directing and controlling qualitative and quantitative standards of work performed at Bearden-Josey Centers of Breast Health.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree from an approved AMA School of Radiologic Technology
  • Documented 40 hours of training specific to mammography as required by the FDA
  • Documented 8 hours of training in each mammography modality to be used to perform exams as required by the FDA
  • Documented performance of 200 mammogram exams in the last two years as required by the FDA
  • Documented 15 hours of continuing education, 3 years consecutively as required by the FDA
  • ARRT registry in Radiography with registry or registry-eligible status in Mammography
  • South Carolina Radiation Quality Standards Association License
  • Current Basic Life Support (CPR and AED) provider certification

Responsibilities

  • Perform screening and/or diagnostic mammograms and bone densitometry exams
  • Assist radiologist with invasive breast procedures
  • Review images for quality and tissue acquisition
  • Explain procedure to patient, reducing anxieties, and obtain patient history relevant to exam
  • As requested by radiologist, communicate results to patient
  • Maintain open communication with scheduling and registration to ensure appropriate physician order is obtained
  • Engage with Breast Imaging Navigator as needed to assist with further patient needs or appointments
  • Perform general equipment assessment and report any issues to Breast Health team
  • Other duties as assigned
