About the Role

Assist in equipment repair and preventative maintenance procedures within the facility.

Responsibilities

  • Repair, replace, correct, or adjust equipment to ensure it operates correctly and efficiently according to production requirements.
  • Consult with engineers and vendors as needed.
  • Perform layout work for projects as required.
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues.
  • Comply with all safety requirements, policies, and regulations set by Simmons or government agencies concerning safety, environment, vehicle use, food product handling, packaging, and ingredients.
  • Participate as a team member in the ongoing development, communication, and implementation of team concepts, programs, and policies.
  • Coordinate work to ensure best practices with all team members and attend appropriate team meetings.
  • Foster team cohesiveness on major issues such as direction, annual plans, budgets, and policy changes.
  • Identify areas lacking cohesiveness, bring them to the team leader’s attention, and work toward resolution.
  • Reinforce actions needed to achieve synergy within the larger organization.
  • Familiarize yourself with Simmons' operating systems (e.g., quality, security, office environment, company policies, LEAN) and understand your role in supporting these systems.
  • Communicate concerns and improvement ideas related to operating systems.
  • Perform other duties as necessary to support business objectives.

Physical Activities

  • Enter and locate information on a computer, including visually verifying small print.
  • Manually lift or move objects weighing 75-150 pounds.
  • Work in extreme temperatures, on your feet for an entire shift.
  • Work in cramped, enclosed, elevated, wet, or dirty areas with noise levels above 90 decibels.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Experience or vocational training in welding, electrical or mechanical repair, and refrigeration or hydraulics.
  • Preference for candidates with experience in poultry or food processing organizations.
  • Military experience is valued and welcomed.

Skills

  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to make quality decisions.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Use of appropriate footwear, hearing protection, and other protective equipment as needed or required.
