MAINTENANCE REPAIRER 2 - WAE
About the role
The Louisiana Department of Public Safety & Corrections – Corrections Services seeks a skilled and motivated Maintenance Repairer at Elayn Hunt Correctional Center in St. Gabriel, LA. This role involves performing minor repairs on navigational locks, maintaining and repairing various motorized equipment, and completing general building and facility repairs.
Responsibilities
- Performs minor repairs on navigational locks, including replacing hydraulic hoses and assisting with routine maintenance.
- Maintains and repairs a wide range of motorized equipment, conducting tune-ups, replacing or adjusting worn or damaged components, and performing limited disassembly of major systems.
- Completes general building and facility repairs, including work on interiors, exteriors, furniture, fixtures, and structural components.
- Carries out tasks in related trades such as plumbing, carpentry, and electrical to support overall facility upkeep.
Requirements
- Two years of experience or training in the building construction trades, building maintenance, maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment, or park operations and grounds maintenance.
- Completion of a two-year vocational technical program in general building construction, construction technology, or engineering.
- Twelve semester hours in construction management, construction technology, or engineering, or any combination of these courses.
Qualifications
Minimum qualifications include completion of a two-year vocational technical program in general building construction, construction technology, or engineering, or twelve semester hours in construction management, construction technology, or engineering. Applicants must also authorize the HR Office of DPS&C-Corrections Services to contact prior employers to check references under the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA).

Schedule
This is a 24-hour facility, and the position is a 'when actually employed' (WAE) position without benefits.
