maintenance mechanic, 12 hour rotating

About the role

As a Maintenance Mechanic in our Roasting Plants, you will operate ammonia refrigeration, compressed air, steam boilers, condensate return, and other associated plant utility auxiliary equipment. You will support all aspects of the maintenance department, including general building and grounds maintenance, installation of new equipment, and completion of plant work orders, part lists, and preventive maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Ensure all plant equipment functions at optimum levels by performing short-term repairs and long-term improvements.
• Complete tasks thoroughly and accurately to ensure compliance with quality standards and regulatory requirements.
• Understand and follow established safety guidelines, programs, and procedures; actively work to prevent safety incidents.
• Support food safety, legality, and quality programs; maintain product quality through adherence to good manufacturing practices, Food Safety Preventative Controls, product specifications, and quality procedures.
• Assist with the installation of all new equipment and complete preventive maintenance.
• Work a rotating shift, including holidays, and attend ammonia refrigeration training if necessary.
• Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical plant equipment and understand technical equipment manuals.
• Perform other duties as needed in support of business objectives and Starbucks Mission & Values.
• Maintain regular and consistent attendance and punctuality.

Requirements

• Automated manufacturing or distribution environment experience (5 years).
• General industrial maintenance and electrical systems experience (5 years).
• Experience repairing and maintaining high-speed packaging equipment (2 years).
• Knowledge of welding, plumbing, and machining.
• High school diploma/GED, US military service, or equivalent.
• Ability to work variable shifts to support business needs.
• Ability to work in accordance with safety, quality, and sanitation standards, policies, and procedures.
• Ability to communicate technical and operational issues clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
• Ability to troubleshoot electrical and mechanical plant equipment.
• Ability to understand mechanical and technical equipment manuals.
• Ability to work in elevated areas with ladders, roofs, and overhead lights.
• Ability to work independently and make decisions with minimal supervision.
• Basic math skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to plan and prioritize workload.
• Familiarity with food safety regulatory requirements and global standards, including Preventive Controls for Human Food (21 CFR 117) and the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI).
• Experience with BRC or SQF certification schemes.

Pay

The actual base pay offered will be based on multiple factors, including job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, and internal equity. At Starbucks, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at the high end of the range for their role.
