Maintenance Mechanic 1
About the role
The Opportunity: As a Maintenance Mechanic 1, you will inspect, maintain, repair, and support the operation of Washington State University Athletics facilities, equipment, and grounds.
Responsibilities
- Perform semi-skilled maintenance and repair work on athletic facilities and support equipment.
- Conduct preventive maintenance inspections.
- Assist with special maintenance and repair projects.
- Operate tools, vehicles, and equipment.
- Support the maintenance and upkeep of sports turf and grounds.
- Support athletic competitions, practices, and special events through the setup, installation, testing, operation, and removal of event-related equipment and infrastructure.
- Provide direction and oversight to student employees assisting with maintenance, facility operations, and event support activities.
- Work independently on routine assignments and may require evening and weekend hours to support athletic facility operations and scheduled events.
Requirements
- High school graduation or equivalent and two (2) years of general work experience in building and equipment maintenance, construction or repair work; OR equivalent education/experience.
- Must have, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid driver’s license and meet requirements in accordance with SPPM 7.10 and departmental driving standards.
- Experience in planning, directing, and carrying out single and multiple job tasks in a timely manner.
Qualifications
- Ability to work varied hours and days, including nights and weekends for WSU Athletic games and events dependent.
Skills
- Experiencing testing PA systems and scoring systems for proper functioning.
- Experience using computer email programs such as Outlook, Gmail, or other similar product.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment and effectively communicate with other units within the department.
- Experience working with and leading students/temp-hourly employees.

Pay
Monthly Salary $4,746 to $5,506 | Range 45G (Steps G-M)
Schedule
This is a full-time (100% FTE), permanent position. This position is overtime eligible.
