About the role

The Opportunity: As a Maintenance Mechanic 1, you will inspect, maintain, repair, and support the operation of Washington State University Athletics facilities, equipment, and grounds.

Responsibilities

  • Perform semi-skilled maintenance and repair work on athletic facilities and support equipment.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance inspections.
  • Assist with special maintenance and repair projects.
  • Operate tools, vehicles, and equipment.
  • Support the maintenance and upkeep of sports turf and grounds.
  • Support athletic competitions, practices, and special events through the setup, installation, testing, operation, and removal of event-related equipment and infrastructure.
  • Provide direction and oversight to student employees assisting with maintenance, facility operations, and event support activities.
  • Work independently on routine assignments and may require evening and weekend hours to support athletic facility operations and scheduled events.

Requirements

  • High school graduation or equivalent and two (2) years of general work experience in building and equipment maintenance, construction or repair work; OR equivalent education/experience.
  • Must have, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid driver’s license and meet requirements in accordance with SPPM 7.10 and departmental driving standards.
  • Experience in planning, directing, and carrying out single and multiple job tasks in a timely manner.

Qualifications

  • Ability to work varied hours and days, including nights and weekends for WSU Athletic games and events dependent.

Skills

  • Experiencing testing PA systems and scoring systems for proper functioning.
  • Experience using computer email programs such as Outlook, Gmail, or other similar product.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment and effectively communicate with other units within the department.
  • Experience working with and leading students/temp-hourly employees.

Pay

Monthly Salary $4,746 to $5,506 | Range 45G (Steps G-M)

Schedule

This is a full-time (100% FTE), permanent position. This position is overtime eligible.
