Job Summary
Under the direction of the Radiologist, Director, and Manager performs diagnostic medical imaging by magnetic resonance including Cardiac MRI, Interoperative MRI or invasive procedures.
Responsibilities
- Performs magnetic resonance imaging examinations, including assessing situations, considering alternatives, and choosing appropriate courses of action.
- Provides MR safety screening for 100% of patients/visitors/staff prior to entering MR room(s).
- Responds to changes in workload using time to departmental advantage.
- Conducts job duties in accordance with departmental standards.
- Communicates technical information in a manner appropriate for the intended audience (patient, family member, or visitor).
- Produces quality images in a consistent manner.
- Serves as a resource to co-workers.
- Assesses for vein/site selection and initiates venipuncture per established standards; documents venipuncture site/contrast in RIS per established departmental guidelines.
- Demonstrates knowledge of cross sectional anatomy, MR anatomical landmarks, and ability to recognize abnormalities and alert radiologist as needed.
- Demonstrates ability to relate to coworkers in a professional and respectful manner to assure and promote a culture of safety.
- Maintains proficiency in the utilization of the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
- Observes established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program safety, environmental and infection control standards.
- Runs appropriate quality control procedures, evaluates results, and makes appropriate corrections.
- Notifies supervisor when quality issues arise.
- Demonstrates attitude of cooperation and professionalism when working in any area of the hospital.
- Reports any problems which may affect the outcome of a patient's exam.
- Prepares written documentation as required by the profession and the department.
- Uses the KRONOS time clock system accurately.
- Uses Hospital/Radiology system according to established policy, including inputting and retrieving information from HIS/Radiology information system, entering information correctly, recognizing and reporting computer malfunction, and providing training and direction to staff as necessary.
- Maintains confidentiality of patient information.
- Performs 3D workstation duties as prescribed by examination.
- Follows hospital and radiology policies: handles bio-hazardous waste appropriately, follows safety and infection control policies, maintains work area in a clean and orderly condition, disposes of bio-hazardous trash properly, uses protective equipment as needed, abides by dress code, and wears ID badge always.
- Respects the confidentiality of patient results and uses discretion when discussing patient matters.
- Practices according to safety and infection control policies, including universal precautions and disposal of hazardous wastes per established guidelines.
- Maintains a safe, clean, comfortable and therapeutic environment for patients/families/employees in accordance with hospital standards.
- Reports risk management concerns.
- Assumes responsibility for completing all annual mandatory requirements: Safety/Fire, Blood Borne Pathogen, Hazardous Communication, TB, Department Specific, Age Appropriate Care (for clinical staff only), and Population Specific Care.

- Provides age-appropriate care to infant, child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients, demonstrating knowledge and skills of normal growth and development necessary to provide services to the age of the patient served.
- Demonstrates ability to assess and interpret age specific data to identify patient needs.
- Utilizes communication skills necessary to interpret age specific responses to service and interaction.
- Involves family or significant other in decision making related to services provided.
- Demonstrates ability to provide service needed for the age groups routinely served by the department assigned.
- Demonstrates ability to assess population specific needs (i.e., language).
- Provides specialized care to patients at high risk for injury, including restraint care (initiating/evaluating alternatives to restraint, applying restraints consistent with approved procedure, monitoring and assessing patient's response throughout the restraint period, providing specified patient care on a timely basis, and providing for trial release and removal of restraints as soon as possible).
- Provides pain management (assessing patient for presence of pain on admission and during assessments/reassessments, incorporating patient's cultural/spiritual beliefs regarding pain into pain management plan, implementing pain management techniques focusing on prevention rather than treatment, including patient and/or family members in developing a pain management plan, and considering other methods of pain control such as massage, repositioning, immobilization, and music therapy).
- Performs abuse assessment (aware of abuse recognition criteria and incorporates it into assessments, reports signs of possible abuse/neglect to the physician and Risk Management, and recommends appropriate consultation).
- Uses communication effectively with others, medical staff, co-workers and patients, consistently communicating ideas in a clear and succinct manner.
- Displays initiative and enthusiasm for non-routine and/or extra duties.
- Effectively serves as a resource person for department.
- Explains procedure to patient/family in understandable terms.
- Participates in continuing education, attending appropriate orientations, accumulating contact hours of continuing education per established ARRT guidelines, providing in-service as necessary, and providing documentation of current ARRT status.
- Attends meetings as required and participates in committees as directed.
- Explains procedures and provides information to customers, including purpose of procedure, special prep, what to expect, and approximate time required, inviting customers to ask questions or raise concerns, avoiding technical jargon, and securing patient's permission to continue before beginning procedures.
- Presents self professionally by wearing ID badge above the waist with picture visible, following dress code, limiting conversation in presence of customers to specific work situations, avoiding discussing internal hospital issues in the presence of customers, being publicly supportive of the organization, colleagues, and physicians, and avoiding offensive jokes, language, or literature.
- Maintains environment conducive to good customer relations by keeping work areas clean, orderly, and free of clutter and trash, removing soiled linens from patient area immediately, reporting all maintenance needs, following paging policy, controlling noise level, striving to understand and meet needs for cultural differences, and aiding customers who appear lost or confused.
- Respects customer privacy and confidentiality by keeping curtains and/or door closed during procedures, knocking before entering doors, assuring patient privacy when taking personal or financial information, keeping medical testing and personal information confidential and avoiding discussing in public areas, accessing only those charts that need to be accessed, and asking patients if they want family members or guests to leave when providing procedures or other services.
- Improves the waiting experience by greeting customers and informing them of estimated length of wait, offering alternatives to long waits, informing customers why they are waiting and what the next step is, offering comfort measures when appropriate, keeping waiting customers informed of their status at frequent intervals, maintaining comfortable and clean waiting areas, and apologizing for any long waits or delays.

Qualifications
- Graduate of accredited Radiology Technologist program
- ARRT-R Radiography (R) and ARRT-MR Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MR) certifications
- Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider (BLS HCP) certification from American Heart Association
- No prior experience required
