About the role
Vitesse Systems is a company that designs and manufactures mission-critical solutions for radar, electronic warfare, and C4I systems. The Machine Shop Supervisor oversees the CNC Machining Department, ensuring safety, productivity, and quality.
Responsibilities
- Oversee daily functions of the CNC Machining department.
- Provide work assignments and maintain a consistent work level.
- Direct and train team members in basic quality procedures, work instructions, and relevant documents.
- Verify that all previous operations are signed off before assigning a job.
- Schedule jobs to run by prioritizing them on the production board, coordinating with the production manager to maintain workflow.
- Ensure new jobs for CNC machines are programmed and special tooling is identified and ordered in advance.
- Identify and address production and quality issues, identifying root causes.
- Train department personnel in quality procedures, work instructions, and documents relevant to their department.
- Verify that all first piece inspections are performed and approved.
- Ensure all department personnel keep their work area and machines clean, coolant levels up, chips removed, and workstations tidy at the end of their shift and after completing their job.
- Verify that all company inspection equipment and tools are in calibration.
- Ensure all jobs are identified with a job number.
- Adhere to all safety policies and ensure proper safety equipment is used by all team members under their supervision.
- Responsible for team member clocking and timecard reviews.
- Perform all functions of the job while adhering to established quality policies and procedures.
- Uphold the company core values.
- Directly supervise team members in the CNC Machining department.
- Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
Qualifications
- Must be able to operate various machines within the department with minimal instruction.
- Must be capable of reading and understanding drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
- Must have good leadership skills and be capable of training team members.
- Must be capable of programming when needed.
- Must be capable of working with minimal supervision.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
- Able to differentiate between symptoms and root causes of problems.
- Able to adapt to a changing work environment and competing demands.
- Prioritize activities and work under pressure.
- Comply with safety standard procedures.
- Be adaptable to a changing work environment and competing demands.
- Work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
- Have computer skills: Outlook email, Excel data entry, Word, log in and out of ERP and Payroll time tracking software.
