LPN Inpatient - Neuro Trauma Surgical
Full-time day/evening/night shift positions available on a 28-bed Medical/Surgical unit specializing in Trauma, Neurosurgery, Urology, and General Surgery. The unit also serves as an alternate for Orthopaedic Surgery, Hospitalist, and other medicine patients, with a dedicated Neurosurgical Advanced Care Practitioner (ACP) on-site daily.
About the Role
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) practices within the parameters set forth in Carilion Clinic’s Plans for the Provision of Patient Care, functioning under the direction of a registered nurse or physician. The LPN partners with the RN in collecting data, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care for all ages.
Responsibilities
- Participate in the nursing process for patients of all ages.
- Communicate frequently with team members, ancillary departments, and physicians.
- Contribute to the development of the patient/resident database and interdisciplinary plan of care.
- Identify patient, family, and caregiver educational needs; incorporate education into the plan of care and document accordingly.
- Apply knowledge of growth and development to provide age-appropriate care.
- Implement prescribed therapeutic treatment plans and procedures.
- Administer prescribed medication to patients.
- Advocate for patients, protect patient rights, and provide psychological, social, and cultural support.
- Contribute to Carilion’s performance improvement activities and support service area, facility, or organizational initiatives.
- Assist in the orientation and career development of others.
- May assign tasks as needed.
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited school of practical nursing.
- Licensed to practice practical nursing in the state of Virginia.
- In Psychiatry and Behavioral Health: de-escalation training must be successfully completed within four months of hire and maintained thereafter.
- Demonstrates knowledge of growth and development principles and the ability to collect data reflective of the patient’s status.
- Interprets appropriate information to identify each patient’s requirements relative to their age and specific needs.
Pay
Compensation range: $23.97 - $35.96 per hour. Employee pay is based on qualifications, credentials, education, and prior work experience. The range does not include benefits or pension plan.
