Low Voltage Specialties Technicians
About the Role
The Low Voltage Specialties Technician position involves installing, troubleshooting, servicing, and repairing low voltage systems, including networks, access control, audio/video, and security systems, with minimal supervision.
Responsibilities
- Use required tools and test equipment (e.g., multi-meter, laptop for programming, lifts) to repair or replace low voltage system components.
- Maintain comprehensive working knowledge of low voltage standards.
- Program and troubleshoot a variety of low voltage systems, including network equipment, A/V equipment, access control, and security systems.
- Diagnose faults related to networks, A/V, access control, and security systems.
- Repair or replace damaged equipment related to networking, A/V, access control, and security systems.
- Communicate professionally with internal and external customers.
- Be punctual and complete scheduled projects in a timely manner.
- Use Field Service Lightning to track work orders, materials, and time on job.
- Complete documentation on work orders.
- Follow SFP’s Safety program, SDS book, Hazardous Communication Program, policies, and procedures.
- Participate in weekly Toolbox talks and know the location of all safety documentation on each project.
- Maintain company-provided vehicle in clean and well-maintained condition as per company policies.
- Be available for on-call status to handle emergency service requests.
- Attend seminars or training sessions to stay updated on the latest technology, codes, and standards.
- Train service technician trainees on applicable aspects of fire protection.
- Perform other assigned duties as needed.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent (required).
- NICET, CTS, manufacturer, or state-specific certification (preferred).
- 2 years of low voltage experience, specifically in networks, A/V, access control, and security systems (required).
- 2 years of professional computer skills (preferred).
- Ability to effectively read, write, and communicate in English.
- 2 years of experience using business intelligence systems (e.g., Salesforce, Sage 300 CRE) (preferred).
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record (required).
- Ability to comply with SFP’s Drug and Alcohol policy and pass background screenings, including customer-specific requirements.
- Ability to travel locally 90% of the time.
Physical & Work Environment Requirements
- Frequently bend, ascend/descend step stools, ladders, and stairs; kneel; lift up to 50 lbs; reach above and below shoulders; stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to see in color, at close and far distances, peripherally, with depth perception, and adjust focus.
- Occasionally balance, crouch, drive, kneel, lift over 50 lbs, sit, stoop, twist, and work at heights.
- Regularly work outside and be exposed to hot/cold temperatures, dust, fumes, chemicals, electrical hazards, and noise.
- Occasionally work indoors in an office setting, alone, or with others.
- Consistently wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required by company safety policies.
