About the Role

The Engineering Line Supervisor for the Division Managed Design organization provides leadership, technical direction, and oversight to Design Engineers. This role involves maintaining safe working conditions and safety awareness, flow down of goals, performance reviews, time card approvals, setting priorities and expectations, and integrating work within the supervised organization.

Additionally, the supervisor will monitor department workload, ensure performance of the organization’s execution of established scope, budget, and schedule for projects under purview, and advise management of staffing needs for both forecasted and emerging workload. The role includes assisting in providing long- and short-term direction for the team, leading engineers in technical matters such as data analysis and subject matter expert (SME) review.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain safe working conditions and safety awareness.
  • Flow down goals, conduct performance reviews, and approve time cards.
  • Set priorities and expectations, integrating work within the supervised organization.
  • Monitor department workload and ensure execution of scope, budget, and schedule for projects.
  • Advise management on staffing needs for forecasted and emerging workload.
  • Provide long- and short-term direction for the team.
  • Lead engineers in technical matters, including data analysis and SME review.
  • Develop and maintain qualified technical resources to execute projects supporting the Y-12 mission.
  • Provide technical oversight for complex technical assignments.
  • Act as a leader, advisor, or consultant for staff.
  • Recommend improvements in guiding documentation, technology utilization, and automation.
  • Analyze the impact of mission changes on design or engineering concepts of assigned programs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering/Physical Science (Chemistry, Physics, or related) from an EAC/ABET-accredited program in the U.S. or designated equivalents from Canada, Mexico, the Washington Accord, or substantially equivalent programs documented by ABET.
  • 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Must meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2A (Baccalaureate in engineering or related scientific major, 2 years job-related experience, and 1 year of nuclear experience; or a DOE O 426.2A alternative). DOE 426.2A experience requirements can be satisfied following employment.
  • Requires a Q clearance; ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required.
  • May require entry into Material Access Areas (MAA) and participation in the Human Reliability Program (10 C.F.R. Part 712).
  • May be categorized as a “designated position” under 10 C.F.R. Part 709, requiring successful completion of a DOE counterintelligence evaluation, which may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination.
  • U.S. citizenship is required for security clearance applicants.
