Job Characteristics

The City of Concord's Recreation Services Department is seeking individuals to work for the Aquatics Program. Salaries are negotiable based on experience:

  • Lifeguard/Swim Instructor I: $17.22 - $18.09/hour, with no experience
  • Lifeguard/Swim Instructor II: $18.54 - $19.48/hour, with a minimum of 2 seasons experience

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of:
    • Current and preventative lifeguarding techniques.
    • Rules and regulations of an aquatic facility.
    • Swimming rescue techniques, CPR, and first aid.
    • Instruction techniques and materials related to aquatic activities.
  • Ability to:
    • Swim with proficiency and endurance.
    • Maintain lifeguard certification.
    • Prevent accidents and effect rescues.
    • Enforce the rules and regulations of an aquatic facility.
    • Perform swimming rescues, CPR, and first aid.
    • Establish and maintain effective relationships with other employees and the public.
    • Follow oral and written instructions.
    • Prepare, read, and write various reports.
    • Instruct students in a variety of aquatic oriented skill level classes.

Experience

  • Lifeguard/Swim Instructor I: None. Previous lifeguarding or competitive swim experience is highly desirable.
  • Lifeguard/Swim Instructor II: Two seasons (equivalent to 5 months or more) of lifeguarding, swim instructor, or swim coach experience is required.

Certifications

  • Valid/current lifeguarding certifications are required for both positions.
  • Must be able to pass American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification Course and complete On-the-Job training as a condition of employment (minimum age of 15 required).

Other

  • A valid California Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record are conditions of initial and continued employment for select positions.
  • Must successfully clear TB testing and fingerprint check.
