About the role

The Ambulatory Float Pool provides staffing support for ambulatory clinics across the entire Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist region. This position specifically supports the Northwestern areas of the AHWFB ambulatory region (Elkin, Hickory, Mt. Airy, Sparta, Statesville, Wilkes, etc.), with coverage extending as far east as the AHWFB Medical Center Clinics in Winston-Salem, NC. Clinics provide a variety of care including primary care/internal medicine, specialty care, OB/GYN, pediatrics, and others.

Requirements

  • Current Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license to practice in the applicable state (dependent on the practice's physical location).
  • Graduate of an accredited school of practical nursing.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required per policy guidelines.
  • Minimum of two years of direct patient care experience.
  • Previous medical office experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care or arrange appropriate care for patients within the scope of nursing practice and office specialty.
  • Accurately document all patient care and interactions in the patient medical record.
  • Participate in telephone triage by obtaining clinically appropriate data and symptoms from patients, advising and instructing patients according to established protocols or provider orders.
  • Track and log all ordered laboratory and diagnostic tests, presenting results to the provider.
  • Engage in pre-visit planning with the provider and care team.
  • Administer medications, including injections.
  • Check vital signs, height, and weight.
  • Assist with reviewing and updating medication history and lists.
  • Assist with satisfaction of pertinent health maintenance requirements.
  • Support providers during procedures and examinations, including instrument and room clean-up.
  • Utilize standard precautions and comply with policies, OSHA standards, CLIA regulations, and TJC/DFS/other regulatory agency standards.
  • Report patient conditions and reactions to providers following procedures, medication administration, or treatments.
  • Assist with patient inquiries for prescription refills, appointment scheduling, and referral authorization.
  • Participate in electronic documentation of care at the provider's direction.
  • Enter orders in the EMR (CPOE) per provider order.
  • Perform CLIA-approved waived laboratory tests and practice-specific diagnostic testing, including Point of Care testing for Hemoglobin A1C and other tests as applicable, adhering to CLIA standards.
  • Perform quality control and maintenance for Point of Care in-office lab procedures.
  • Perform venipuncture and assist with specimen collection of body fluids such as urine and blood for laboratory testing.
  • Complete lab requisitions and prepare specimens for pick-up.
  • Provide patients with a Depart Summary and review it at the end of the visit.
  • Manage all vaccine and pharmaceutical orders, including compliance with state Immunization Registry (NCIR) and SC DHEC regulations, and monitor inventory levels of clinical supplies.

Physical Requirements

  • Consistently requires walking, standing, sitting, lifting, reaching, bending, stooping, pushing, and pulling.
  • Must be able to lift and support up to 35 pounds in handling patients, medical equipment, and supplies.
  • Possible exposure to communicable diseases.
  • Must speak, read, and write Basic English fluently.
  • Intact senses of sight, hearing, smell, and touch; manual finger dexterity.

Pay

Pay range: $24.10 - $36.15 per hour.
