Licensed Practical Nurse - Clinic

About the Role

The LPN Clinic is responsible for providing patient care following established standards and practices. Assists physician, nurse, and staff with the daily coordination of patient care and patient access. Coordinates patient flow, schedules appointments, procedures, tests, and referrals. May serve as a preceptor for clinical staff.

Relies on guidelines to accomplish tasks. Relies on some experience and judgment to complete job. Works under general supervision. May lead and direct the work of others within scope of practice.

Responsibilities

Technical Tasks

• Ability to triage calls including determining appropriate medical decision making (e.g., divert to Emergency Department, STEP IN clinic, or PCP).
• Demonstrates competency and accuracy in all work tasks.
• Courteously answers telephone, properly routes calls, and charts appropriately in EMR including information given and received. Takes complete and accurate messages as required.
• Helps assess the medical and nursing care rendered by self and others within the practice, identifying any need for improvement and communicates this information to superiors.
• Uses appropriate Triage protocols via EMR to guide the appropriate care of patients in conformance with all policies and procedures.
• Takes responsibility for improving technical skills, critical thinking, and interpersonal relationship skills, as needed.
• Fills in and assists other office staff members during their absence or work overloads.

• Responsible for accurate and timely completion of all nursing duties scheduled during the shift without interference to the quality of work.
• Uses interpersonal or communication skills with individuals to achieve desired or acceptable patient outcomes/responses and/or a perception of satisfaction; maintains forthright and honest behavior at all times.
• Uses appropriate internal and external resources to resolve, meet, or exceed patient and family healthcare needs.

  • Assisting in the assessment of patient health status

• Inspires confidence from patients, visitors, and families by performing and communicating in a courteous and professional manner at all times.
• Demonstrates knowledge of corporate policies regarding fire and safety, handling hazardous materials (if applicable), and infection control.
• Clearly explains to the patient, and, if necessary, their family members, the therapy, tests, and/or treatments planned for them.
• Consistently demonstrates the ability to assess a situation, consider the alternatives, and properly choose an appropriate course of action, exhibiting good problem-solving skills.

Interpersonal Relations

• Is willing to accept the mission and values of STEP and is willing to:
  • Participate in assigned committees
  • Implement planned changes in projects and activities
  • Report to Physician or Office Manager any suggestion for positive changes within the office which might improve the quality and/or quantity of work performed
• Assists in maintaining the office as a comfortable, orderly, safe, clean, and private patient care environment.
• Participates in the orientation of new personnel to the office, as required.
• Establishes and maintains good rapport and a spirit/level of cooperation with other office staff members.
• Greets patients, family members, and visitors in a friendly, courteous, and professional manner, responding with empathy and positive feedback.

Other Duties

• Is willing to take on other responsibilities when needed by the organization.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an Accredited LPN program.
• Current Louisiana License as LPN and BLS Certification.
