What You’ll Do

  • Starting pay is approximately $58,000 based on shift assignments.
  • Provides patient care as directed.
  • Documents patient-related care timely within the electronic health record.
  • Maintains patient medical records.
  • Administers medication, including oral and intramuscular medications, may administer intravenous therapy if appropriately certified.
  • Performs treatments.
  • Affords assistance during Doctor’s Sick Call.
  • Affords assistance with chronic care clinics management.
  • Participates in patient care planning and treatment team activities.
  • Responds to emergencies.
  • Provides emergency care and collection of patient data.
  • Collects vital signs and timely documents all findings.
  • Collects urine and/or other body fluid specimens.
  • May perform venipuncture in order to obtain blood samples for laboratory analysis.
  • Prepares patients for release and/or transfer (i.e., Intra-system, out to court).
  • Reviews patient care, completes Intra-System Transfer Summaries and/or Release Summaries.
  • Ensures discharge medication orders are completed and timely forwarded to pharmacy services.
  • Participates in work-related training and all institution training exercises as assigned.
  • Provides assistance to other healthcare staff.
  • Investigates and documents problem areas and/or areas of concern.
  • Reviews shift report from preceding shift(s).
  • Affords assistance to physicians with medical procedures.
  • Affords assistance during other nurses’ absences.
  • Affords nursing support to assistive personnel (i.e., nurse aides, psychiatric attendants, and/or patient care assistants).
  • Provides patient education regarding healthcare maintenance and prevention of disease.
  • Participates in continuous quality improvement activities.
  • Performs administrative duties.
  • Attends meetings.
  • Schedules multidisciplinary team meetings.
  • Performs and/or assists with inventory and ordering of medical supplies.
  • Affords assistance to ancillary staff including Health Information Technicians and medical schedulers as needed to ensure patient care needs are met.
  • Must work overtime as required.
