About the role

Clovis Community College in Fresno, California is hiring a Library Operations Coordinator. This person oversees the operations of the library and plays a significant role in keeping the library running smoothly.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in and monitors the daily operations at an assigned campus library
  • Interprets and explains complicated library policies and procedures to students, staff, faculty and community members
  • Provides access to and instruction in the use of a variety of library resources, both physical and digital
  • Affords lead work guidance and direction to student aides and volunteers
  • Provides detailed and complex assistance to patrons at the circulation desk
  • Creates and monitors reports that generate library overdue notices
  • Maintains records of circulation, attendance, intra-library loans, periodicals, database usage, student hours, long-overdue fines and holds, requisitions, invoices and deposits
  • Responds to inquiries and complaints regarding complex clerical and technical library matters
  • Coordinates and performs interlibrary/inter-facility loan process using computerized library system
  • Coordinates reserve activities
  • Coordinates the acquisition, organization and making accessible periodical print publications for the library collection
  • Maintains records of circulation, attendance, intra-library loans, periodicals, database usage, student hours, long-overdue fines and holds, requisitions, invoices and deposits
  • Contributes to the development and maintenance of policies and procedures for library staff and students
  • Collaborates with the Dean, Librarians and other staff to create training materials

Requirements

  • An associate degree including coursework in library science or library technology and at least three years of progressively responsible experience involving processing, circulating and storing library books and related materials, including experience in a lead or supervisory role
  • Experience in a college or university setting is preferable

  • Train and provide work direction to others
  • Interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures and apply them in a variety of procedural situations
  • Provide technical library services relating to the circulation, distribution and recovery of library materials
  • Operate computerized cataloging bibliographical and circulation systems databases
  • Assist students and others in use of library materials and equipment
  • Work effectively with constant interruptions
  • Prepare and maintain statistical records and reports
  • Repair library materials with minor damage
  • Respond to requests and inquiries from students, faculty and staff and resolve patron complaints using tact and diplomacy
  • Explain and apply library rules, regulations and policies
  • Identify and resolve user problems related to library systems performance and operations
  • Conduct research and prepare reports as required by Librarians
  • Effectively engage and support historically minoritized groups by addressing issues of equity and improving culturally responsive service-oriented practices
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Understand and follow written and oral instructions
  • Operate a computer and use standard business software
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with all those encountered in the course of work

Other duties

  • Produces newsletters, brochures, signs, handouts, graphs, displays and other documents as needed to promote or explain the use of library resources or services
  • Participates in the opening and closing of the library following established procedures, ensuring the safety and security of patrons
  • Responds to and troubleshoots user problems with computers, WiFi, copiers and printers, copy-card machine and other library equipment; contacts appropriate technical support personnel; reports maintenance and building issues to facilities maintenance personnel; advises supervisor of major system problems
