Senior role in the Library Associate job family; may supervise Junior Library Associates. Focuses on programming, circulation-desk service, and volunteer coordination.
Responsibilities
- Provide customer service to patrons by greeting, giving tours, and assisting in all library areas.
- Supervise junior Library Associates: manage performance, conduct evaluations, interview/hire, train, and approve timesheets.
- Collaborate with Librarians and management to plan, implement, and promote programming activities.
- Process newly acquired materials: apply identifying stamps, labels, RFID tags, and covers.
- Inform patrons of conduct rules and enforce them when necessary.
- Maintain circulation records and oversee mailing of materials to homebound patrons.
- Process damaged materials to keep collections in good condition.
- Assist with library opening and closing procedures.
- Support the reference desk by answering patron questions.
- Coordinate and assign duties to volunteers, providing necessary training.
- Know and uphold the American Library Association’s Library Bill of Rights, Freedom to Read Statement, and Freedom to View Statement; support freedom of access and patron discretion.
- Follow all legal and policy requirements related to patron privacy and custodianship of records.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Three years of library experience preferred.
- One year of supervisory experience preferred.
- Proficiency with library systems and databases.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Multilingual ability is a plus.
- High proficiency in MS Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) desired.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Ability to work a regular schedule that may include days, evenings, and weekends.
Physical Requirements
- Frequently move within the library to file and retrieve items, including from high shelves.
- Lift/push up to 25 pounds regularly and occasionally up to 35 pounds (boxes, books, equipment).
- Work in confined spaces; walk, bend, stoop, reach, and climb.
