Library - Associate III
Job Summary
The Sumter Library System seeks a Library Associate 3 to join their team. This role is senior in the Library Associate job family, focusing on programming and circulation services while providing excellent customer service.
Primary Responsibilities
- Provide customer service by greeting, guiding patrons, and assisting them in all areas of the library.
- Collaborate with librarians and management to plan, implement, and promote programming activities.
- Process newly acquired library materials, including all necessary stamps, labels, and RIDFs.
- Inform patrons about library rules and enforce them when necessary.
- Maintain circulation records and oversee the mailing of library materials to patrons.
- Ensure collections are maintained in good condition by processing damaged materials.
- Aid in library opening and closing procedures.
- Support the reference desk in answering patrons' questions.
- Coordinate volunteers and provide necessary training.
- Support client discretion regarding materials available at the local library.
- Follow legal and policy requirements related to patron privacy and record custody.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- H.S. Diploma or GED required, Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Three years library experience preferred.
- One-year supervisory experience preferred.
- Proficiency with library systems and databases.
- Excellent communications skills, both written and verbal.
- High degree of proficiency in MS Office suite including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Physical ability to move between locations, lift up to 25 pounds, and work in confined spaces.
