About the role

The Librarian II: Branch Manager will provide strategic and functional oversight for the Graham Public Library in Graham, NC, fostering collaborative relationships with employees, peers, and the community. This position works under the supervision of the Assistant Director.

Responsibilities

  • Directly and indirectly supervising branch staff, including monthly preparation of timesheets, evaluation of staff performance, completing disciplinary actions, counseling staff regarding performance and employee personnel policies, planning of work and continuing education;
  • Participating in hiring for all branch positions;
  • Planning and facilitating branch meetings, such as bi-annual all staff meetings, quarterly department meetings, and monthly department heads and lead staff meetings;
  • Creating fair and balanced six to twelve-week staff schedules, weekly desk schedules, and annual weekend rotation;
  • Involvement with the City of Graham as pertains to any issues concerning the library building, maintenance, and other issues that may impact the library, staff or patrons;
  • Handling special requests and patron complaints, enforcing ACPL’s established policies and procedures as needed;
  • Overseeing the planning, coordination, and execution of programming at the branch;
  • Planning publicity and public relations for the branch;
  • Collecting, formatting, and posting monthly statistics online;
  • Working at the branch’s public service desk as scheduled and following established ACPL circulation policies and procedures;
  • Providing bibliographic instruction and readers’ advisory services for library patrons;
  • Promoting good customer service, including public speaking events, tours, and teaching library skills to small groups;
  • Participating in the selection and deselection of materials for the branch collection; making purchasing recommendations based on branch needs;
  • Cooking, prioritizing, and assigning tasks and projects to direct staff and volunteers, tracking and reviewing work progress and activities;
  • Participating on ACPL’s Library Management Team, attending ACPL’s monthly Branch Manager meetings, and other committees as needed.

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree with 2 to 3 years of professional library experience in a public library or some college with 5 or more years of full-time experience working in a public library with supervisory responsibilities.
  • Experience with computer applications or other automated systems such as spreadsheets, word processing, calendar, e-mail and database;
  • Knowledge of Integrated Library Systems Software;
  • Bilingual (Both written and oral fluency in more than one language) is preferred;
  • Flexibility in scheduling is required.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods;
  • bend, reach, squat, and lift up to 40 lbs.
  • Ability to push/pull loaded book carts and access materials on high and low shelves.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with patrons and staff in a busy environment.

  • Health Insurance - Full-time employees are eligible for medical/health (Cigna Insurance) benefits upon the 1st of the month following 30 days of employment.
  • Dental Benefit - Alamance County offers one dental insurance (Delta Dental) plan for FT employees at no cost. The plan, if elected, would be effective the first of the month following 30 days of FT employment.

  • Life Insurance – Basic term life insurance is the amount of one times the annual salary (no greater than $70,000) is provided for all FT employees. Additional coverage is available for purchase through payroll deductions for employee and eligible dependents.
  • Retirement Benefits - Membership in the NC Local Government Employees Retirement System (NCLGERS) is a requirement for all full-time and regular part-time employees (working more than 1,000 hours annually). Employees contribute six percent (6%) of their annual compensation before it is taxed.
  • Time Off Accruals: Vacation Time – Annual Leave is accrued based on years of service. Employees can accrue from 10-25 days per year. Sick Time – All County full time employees earn 12 days of sick leave per year. County Observed Holidays – Alamance County will observe the State of North Carolina Holiday Schedule.
