Duties

  • Provides substantive assistance to Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSAs) in complex litigative matters related to foreclosure cases through complex coordination with other Federal agencies during investigations and cases.
  • Examines complicated title evidence to ensure proper parties are joined in suit and locates persons with potential legal interests.
  • Acts as a legal assistance subject matter expert and provides training, guidance, and technical assistance to other legal support staff.
  • Performs extensive searches of records, reference, and/or historical material.
  • Independently researches, evaluates, and coordinates information to establish the facts and issues of specific litigation cases.
  • Prepares a wide variety of legal documents that are voluminous and complex in format. Formats and content that is based on applicable rules and regulations governing the document involved.
  • Independently prepares indictments, complaints, search warrants, judgments, applications, notices, affidavits, summonses, grand jury subpoenas, rules to show cause, proofs of claim, and satisfaction of judgment.

Requirements

  • To be qualified at the GS-8 level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 level in federal service.
  • Specialized experience is defined as experience performing the following types of duties:
    • Preparing pleadings, motions, affidavits, complaints, answers, and notices in civil cases.
    • Reviewing and analyzing deeds, trust documents, liens, and title searches to determine lienholder priority.
    • Organizing, assembling, and tracking voluminous case files for litigation, including preparing exhibits for trials and hearings.
    • Congducting factual and legal research to identify relevant legal principles, court decisions, and precedents.
    • Ensuring that legal documents comply with specific court rules, statutes, and procedural requirements.
  • To be qualified, you must type at least 40 words per minute based on a 5-minute sample with three or fewer errors.
