The Department

The Department of Computing is based within the Worcester Business School at the University of Worcester City Campus. The University of Worcester is ranked joint first in the UK for quality education and has the highest rate of sustained employment for its graduates from any multidisciplinary university in the UK.

Location

Worcester is a beautiful cathedral city, located around 40 minutes south of Birmingham.

Overview

We are seeking to complement our team with an experienced Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Robotics and Computer Science. The Department conducts research across several themes including Machine Learning, Data Science, Intelligent Interactive Systems, Computing in Education, and Cyber Security. The Department also hosts the Digital Innovation and Intelligent Systems Research Group.

Contract Type

  • Standard Academic Contact (SAC) - includes teaching and academic research
  • Teaching Only Contract (TOC) - includes teaching only

Qualifications and Experience

  • SAC: Hold (or be within 12 months of full completion of) a PhD in a related Computer Science field
  • TOC: Hold a Masters’ Degree in a related Computer Science field and a recognised teaching qualification and/or fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (HEA / Advance HE)

Key Skills and Expertise

  • Contemporary subject knowledge and/or experience of physical computing
  • Robotics
  • Single board computers (Raspberry Pi, Arduino platform)
  • Real-time operating systems
  • Utilizing sensors and microcontrollers
  • Computer hardware and electronics for Computer Science
  • Two or more of the following areas: Robotics, Computer Science, Object Oriented Programming, Mathematics for Computing, Operating Systems, Cloud Computing, Internet of Things

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Lead on the development of existing and new module and course offerings in our undergraduate and postgraduate portfolio
  • Contribute to the research and/or knowledge exchange activities within the Department of Computing
