The Department of Communication and Media Studies at California State University San Marcos seeks a part-time lecturer for Fall 2026 to teach MDIA 304: Global Media.

About the role

This position is a part-time lecturer for the academic year. The course is offered in-person during the Fall semester, specifically on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:00 to 5:15 p.m.

Responsibilities

  • Instruct students in MDIA 304: Global Media, exploring “globalization” as an historical and contested process, and cultural, social, technological, economic, and political processes at work in “media globalization.”
  • Contextualize case studies linking specific media forms (music, radio, video, journalism, internet, mobile phones, broadcast satellites, and points of origin) to old and new audiences.
  • Teach using Learning Management Systems such as Canvas, Moodle, or Blackboard.
  • Engage in higher education teaching experience with at least 1 year as a teacher of record in relevant subject areas.

Requirements

  • ABD in Communication/Media Studies or closely related field.
  • Experience and demonstrated effectiveness with in-person classroom instruction and Learning Management Systems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A doctorate in Communication/Media Studies or closely related field.
  • Pertinent expertise to teach courses in Communication/Media Studies programs.
  • Preference given to applicants demonstrating intercultural competence and a commitment to serving the campus community.

Salary

Salary commensurate with degree level and experience. The anticipated hiring range is generally at or near the minimum of the appropriate range, commensurate with education and experience.
