Lecturer - MDIA 403: Children's Media (Fall 2026)
The Department of Communication and Media Studies at California State University San Marcos seeks a part-time lecturer for Fall 2026 to teach MDIA 403: Children's Media.
About the role
This position is a part-time lecturer for the academic year. Classes are scheduled on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:30 p.m. to 6:45 p.m., in-person. The position is contingent upon approval and is subject to employment verification, education verification, reference checks, and criminal record checks.
Responsibilities
- Teach MDIA 403: Children's Media, examining the landscape of children’s media from a critical media and cultural studies perspective.
- Explore the complexities of children’s media through the communication circuit of production, text, and audience.
- Introduce students to major debates surrounding the role of media in children's lives in the U.S. and globally.
Requirements
- ABD in Communication/Media Studies or closely related field.
- Experience and demonstrated effectiveness with in-person classroom instruction and Learning Management Systems such as Canvas, Moodle, or Blackboard.
Preferred Qualifications
- A doctorate in Communication/Media Studies or closely related field.
- Pertinent expertise to teach courses in Communication/Media Studies programs.
- Higher education teaching experience with at least 1 year as a teacher of record in the subject area.
- Demonstrated intercultural competence and a commitment to serving the campus community.
Salary and Benefits
Salary commensurate with degree level and experience. The anticipated hiring range is generally at or near the minimum of the appropriate range, commensurate with education and experience.
