About the role
Under the direction of the Patient Access Supervisor, this position is responsible for on-going training of staff with policies, procedures, and department functions for all the Patient Access areas. Provides technical leadership and guidance to the Patient Access Associates.
Responsibilities
- Oversee daily workflow, completion of work, and provide support in problem resolution and identification
- Provide guidance on pre-registration, admissions, insurance verification, authorizations, pre-certification, collection of patient payments prior to services, and financial screening for EPCHD programs
- Perform duties of the Patient Access Associate as necessary
Required Skills
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Knowledge of medical terminology and familiarity with ICD9 coding
- Ability to maintain an efficient day-to-day workflow within a constantly changing environment
- Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate associates
- Ability to identify priorities and perform independently due to de-centralization of admission areas
- Ability to work with diverse personalities and conflicting requests
- Remain current on insurance payers and Medicare requirements for admission and ancillary services
- Ability to work in challenging situations, i.e. interpersonal conflicts, staff shortages
- Ability to deal tactfully with Associates, patients, visitors and the general public
- PC experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and graphics
- Bilingual English/Spanish required
Qualifications
Work Experience: Two years healthcare admitting experience or work experience in a related healthcare, business, or finance position.
Education and Training: High school education or GED; some college preferred.
