Job Summary
The Lead Continuous Improvement Specialist supports and facilitates cross-functional Lean and Continuous Improvement initiatives to deliver operational and financial improvements. The role coaches project teams in Lean methods, partners with business and functional leaders to implement change, and helps establish and deploy standard work practices. Contributes to measurable cost savings, cost avoidance, and revenue increases aligned to project goals, and supports the Amtrak-wide Continuous Improvement program, culture, and community of practice.
Essential Functions
- Consult with the Sr. Manager, Continuous Improvement to define scopes of work, stakeholders, deliverables, schedules, and goals.
- Support and facilitate cross-functional Continuous Improvement (CI) projects using Lean and Six Sigma tools to deliver operational and financial improvements, under the guidance of CI leadership.
- Assess and enhance current business processes by setting baseline metrics, analyzing data, and integrating complex data sets.
- Contribute to root cause analysis and solution development by preparing materials, facilitating working sessions, and incorporating stakeholder input to build alignment.
- Facilitate alignment among stakeholders regarding project objectives, scope, and requirements; provide coaching to teams and promote the adoption of standardized workflows and process improvements.
- Partner with colleagues and senior management to support implementation, communicate findings to diverse audiences, and maintain project documentation and deliverables.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education, training and/or relevant experience.
- Plus 6 years of relevant work experience.
- Continuous Improvement experience
- Project management experience
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Strong analytical skills and business intuition
- Strong knowledge of MS Office Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio
- Business process analysis, design, or redesign experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education, training and/or relevant experience.
- Plus 8 years of relevant work experience.
- PMP (Project Management Professional) or CAPM (Certified Associate in Project Management)
- Lean Six Sigma Green Belt, Lean Leader, or equivalent certification
- Organizational Change Management certifications or experience
- Agile experience (short-term project delivery)
- Dashboard design and/or dashboard creation experience (PowerBI, Tableau)
- Transportation industry experience
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Basic knowledge of Lean principles and tools
- Ability to develop and validate process flow diagrams
- Strong knowledge of MS Office Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio.
- Competencies: results oriented, able to influence without authority, initiative, communication; change agent
- Strong planning, organizing, and time management skills with the ability to collaborate with business owners and prioritize multiple project needs
Pay
The salary/hourly range is $94,300.00 – $122,256.00. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. Depending on an employee's assigned worksite or location, Amtrak may consider a geo-pay differential to be applied to the employee's base salary. Amtrak may offer additional incentive and pay programs to recognize and reward our employees, including a short-term incentive bonus based upon factors such as individual and company performance that is commensurate with the level of the position.
