LEAD ACCOUNTANT.

About the Role
Provides professional accounting advice and assistance to supported organizations, ensuring compliance with generally accepted accounting principles, policies, and procedures. This role involves proposing, modifying, and implementing accounting procedures to enhance accuracy and integrity, as well as establishing and monitoring internal controls.
Responsibilities
- Propose new or modify existing accounting procedures to resolve problems and improve validity, accuracy, and integrity of accounting processes.
- Assist in implementing new procedures or policies to ensure compliance with financial accounting requirements.
- Provide technical advice and training to technicians and program managers on processing accounting transactions or reconciling financial reports.
- Establish and monitor internal controls to identify problem areas, improve program effectiveness, and maintain financial integrity.
- Review, analyze, and evaluate performance measurement and financial management indicators to assess accounting operations.
- Ensure the organization’s strategic plan, mission, vision, and values are communicated and integrated into team goals and work plans.
- Coach the team in problem-solving methods and techniques, and advise on work practices and procedures.
- Assist in identifying viable solutions for the team or individual members.

Basic Requirements
To qualify, you must meet one of the following:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting from an accredited institution, or a related degree (e.g., business administration, finance, public administration) with 24 semester hours in accounting (up to 6 hours may be in business law).
- Or a combination of 4 years of accounting experience, college-level education, and training that provided professional accounting knowledge, plus 24 semester hours in accounting/auditing (including up to 6 hours in business law) or a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) certificate.
Specialized Experience
For the GS-12 level, you must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in the federal service. Specialized experience includes:
- Providing professional accounting support to ensure the effectiveness and efficiency of accounting operations.
- Applying accounting concepts, principles, and methods to day-to-day operations.
Education cannot substitute for specialized experience at the GS-13 level.
