Responsibilities

  • Review, validate, analyze, and recommend corrections to financial data to ensure accuracy of accounting information.
  • Perform general ledger account research and analysis to resolve aging transactions and reconcile differences.
  • Perform reconciliations to provide accuracy and consistency in financial accounts.
  • Analyze financial data (general ledger accounts/trial balances) to identify changes and explain the business events causing the changes.
  • Support the development and execution of financial policies and procedures.
  • Provide audit support such as responding to auditor requests and developing and executing corrective action plans to remediate audit differences.
  • Perform additional responsibilities and special projects as assigned to support departmental goals and evolving business needs.

  • This position requires DoD Financial Management Level 2 certification within 2 years in accordance with DoD Instruction 1300.26, DoD Directive 5118.03, and section 1599d of Title 10, U.S.C. Once obtained, you must maintain and improve proficiency.

Qualifications

To qualify for an Accountant, your resume and supporting documentation must support one of the following:

  • Basic Requirement: A bachelor's degree or higher in a related field such as business administration, finance, or public administration that included or was supplemented by 24 semester hours in accounting. The 24 hours may include up to 6 hours of credit in business law. Applicants MUST submit a copy of their college transcripts.
  • Education Substitution: A combination of education and experience — at least 4 years of experience in accounting, or an equivalent combination of accounting experience, college-level education, and training that provided professional accounting knowledge. Applicants MUST submit a copy of their college transcripts.
  • Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience at the GS-09 grade level or equivalent, including:
    • Maintaining accounting records to prepare financial statements and reports.
    • Evaluating the effectiveness of daily accounting operations and/or existing procedures.
    • Assisting in the development of procedures that apply to automated financial programs and/or systems.
  • Combination: Combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements for grade levels GS-11.

Applicants using education to qualify must provide transcripts. Foreign education must be evaluated by an accredited organization to ensure equivalence to a U.S. education program.
