About the role
This position provides professional accounting advice and assistance in the application and compliance of generally accepted accounting principles, policies, and procedures. Duties include reviewing, analyzing, and modifying operating programs, practices, and procedures related to accounting transactions, establishing and monitoring internal controls, and applying knowledge of automated data processing systems.
Responsibilities
- Reviews, analyzes, and modifies operating programs, practices, and procedures related to accounting transactions.
- Affirms and maintains the integrity of financial and accounting information through internal controls.
- Applies knowledge and understanding of automated data processing systems to accounting systems and "feeder" systems.
- Performs special audits, studies, reports, and/or analysis to evaluate the financial health and position of accounting operations.
- Assists in establishing and monitoring internal controls to identify problem areas, determine actions required to improve operating program effectiveness, and ensure the integrity of financial and accounting information.
- Performs duties that are developmental in nature, providing assistance in validating, maintaining, or processing accounting data or transactions.
Requirements
Conditions of employment include U.S. Citizenship, Background Investigation, Suitability for Federal Employment, and Obtain/Maintain Financial Management Certification. This position may require access to classified information and a favorable suitability review and security clearance as a condition of employment. Failure to maintain security eligibility may result in termination.
Qualifications
- Related financial experience AND/OR a related financial degree (Finance, Accounting, Management, Actuarial Science, or related).
- Completion of all requirements for a bachelor's degree in accounting from an accredited college or university; or a degree in a related field such as business administration, finance, or public administration that includes or is supplemented by 24 semester hours in accounting.
- At least 4 years of accounting experience or an equivalent combination of accounting experience, college-level education, and training that provided professional accounting knowledge AND 24 semester hours in accounting/auditing courses, which may include up to 6 hours of business law.
- Certified Public Accountant or Certified Internal Auditor.
Skills
Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, policies, and procedures. Ability to apply knowledge and understanding of automated data processing systems to accounting systems and "feeder" systems. Ability to solve program/system issues. Ability to assist in establishing and monitoring internal controls to identify problem areas, determine actions required to improve operating program effectiveness, and ensure and maintain the integrity of financial and accounting information.
