About the role
As an Armed Patrol Officer at a government transportation location in Honolulu, HI, you will conduct routine patrols, maintain a visible presence to help deter security-related incidents, and respond professionally to site needs. You will provide exceptional customer service and clear communication while supporting a welcoming environment for travelers and staff. This is a full-time position.
Responsibilities
- Provide customer service to clients by carrying out security-related procedures, site-specific policies, and emergency response activities.
- Respond to incidents and critical situations in a calm, problem-solving manner.
- Exercise sound judgement and render immediate, appropriate decisions under stressful conditions.
- Conduct regular and random armed patrols of airport terminals, parking areas, roadways, perimeter areas, and other assigned locations to identify and report unusual activity, hazards, and policy violations.
- Monitor access points, restricted areas, and perimeter locations; verify credentials and report unauthorized access attempts or suspicious activity.
- Prepare accurate reports and maintain required documentation related to patrols, incidents, observations, and other security-related activities.
- Provide a court appearance for citations issued on behalf of DOTA, if required.
- Supervise contractor’s personnel and work effectively with airport management, tenants, other law enforcement agencies, and the public on security-related matters.
Requirements
- 2+ years of professional law enforcement experience in the U.S. after graduating from a certified law enforcement academy (Federal, State, or County level).
- Graduate of a Law Enforcement or Military Police Training Program or equivalent (must provide credentials upon applying).
- Valid Driver’s License (required for driving positions).
- Law Enforcement Officer License.
- 22+ years of age.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
- No felony convictions or convictions for abuse of a household member under the Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968 (18 U.S.C.922(g)(9)).
- No documented truthfulness infractions in violation of Giglio/Henthorn for federal impeachment proceedings.
- No record of moral turpitude, domestic violence, untruthfulness, or mental/emotional disorders that may interfere with performance of duties.
- Must pass a security background check conducted by the DOTA pass and ID office.
- Must pass a one-time physical examination within the past 6 months and a 12-panel drug test, including future random drug testing.
- Correctable vision to 20/30 in each eye with normal color vision.
- Able to hear at a normal conversational level (hearing aid permissible).
- Well-groomed and neat in appearance as officially commissioned representatives of the State.

Physical Requirements
- Mentally and emotionally capable of performing all assigned duties.
- Good physical health and fully capable of performing normal or emergency duties requiring moderate to arduous physical exertion, including standing, walking, patrolling for entire shifts, climbing stairs, running, and self-defense.
- Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 25 lbs. for a designated distance (e.g., fire extinguisher).
- Ability to assist in the safe evacuation of individuals, including carrying a small child or supporting persons with limited mobility.
- Ability to exercise physical force, if required, in the execution of official duties.
- Subject to random drug screening.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of one of the following approved programs:
- Certified State law enforcement recruit training.
- Certified County law enforcement recruit training.
- Federal law enforcement training.
- Programs approved by the Director.
- At least 21 years of age for armed roles.
- Customer service experience is preferred.
- Ability to lift more than 20 lbs. is preferred.
- Armed guard card or license is preferred.
Pay
$34.50 per hour.
