Position Summary

A Landscape Crew Leader is responsible for leading and managing a crew of 2–5 team members to successfully complete landscape construction and installation projects. This role requires strong leadership, technical expertise, and a commitment to executing all work with the following priorities in order: Safety, Quality, and Efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, supervise, and motivate a crew of 2–5 team members.
    Provide clear direction, daily task assignments, and hands-on training.

  • Ensure all work is completed safely, correctly, and efficiently.
    Maintain strong attention to detail across the entire property, ensuring a clean, organized, and professional appearance at all times.

  • Maintain jobsite organization, cleanliness, and professionalism.
    Communicate effectively with supervisors, team members, and clients when needed.

  • Monitor crew productivity and uphold company performance standards.

Safety & Compliance

  • Enforce safety protocols and ensure safe operation of all tools and equipment.

  • Maintain compliance with DOT regulations and company vehicle policies.

  • Ensure proper loading, securing, and transport of equipment and materials.

Landscape Construction & Installation

  • Perform and oversee:

  • Site preparation, leveling, and grading

  • Drainage system installation (including drainage tile)

  • Hardscape paver installation

  • Retaining wall installation

  • Plant installation and bed preparation

  • Read, interpret, and accurately execute work according to blueprints, landscape plans, and construction drawings.

  • Ensure projects meet design specifications and company quality standards.

Plant Knowledge & Horticulture

  • Demonstrate job-specific knowledge of:

  • Plant identification

  • Growth habits and spacing requirements

  • Proper planting techniques

  • Common plant diseases and landscape issues

  • Identify plant health concerns and recommend solutions.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid driver’s license (required).

  • Must have or be able to obtain and maintain a DOT Medical Card for operating commercial vehicles.

  • Proven experience loading, securing, and driving truck and trailer combinations.

  • Experience leading and managing a small crew (2–5 team members).

  • Proficient operation of skid steers, mini excavators, and other landscape construction equipment.

  • Experience in grading, drainage installation, paver systems, and retaining wall construction.

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and construction drawings.

  • Strong understanding of jobsite safety standards and OSHA best practices.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality workmanship.

  • Strong communication and leadership skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3+ years of landscape construction experience.

  • Prior leadership or foreman experience.

  • Ability to troubleshoot jobsite challenges and adjust plans as needed.

  • Knowledge of irrigation systems is a plus.

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift 50+ pounds regularly.

  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.

  • Ability to stand, kneel, bend, and operate equipment for extended periods.

  • Ability to work extended hours during peak season.
