Lake Needwood Boats & Black Hill Boats Positions - Seasonal
About the role
Montgomery County Parks, Enterprise Division, seeks dynamic, energetic, and fun Seasonal Intermittent applicants for various positions at Black Hill Boats and Lake Needwood Boats.
Responsibilities
- Boat Dock Hand: Assist with boarding and exiting various vessels, clean and maintain boats and equipment, perform administrative tasks, and work outside for up to eight hours per day.
- Boat Shop Manager on Duty: Manage staff, supervise operational activities, handle cash, prepare reports, operate patrol boat, and notify manager of needs.
- Pontoon Tour Operator: Operate weekend public tours, assist with facility management, supervise staff, and provide customer assistance.
Requirements
- Weekend work is required.
- Ability to complete a Boaters Safety Certificate Course within two weeks of hire date.
- Minimum age varies by position: 16 for Boat Dock Hand, 18 for Boat Shop Manager on Duty, and 18 for Pontoon Tour Operator.
- Boat operating experience (including motorboats) is preferred for Boat Shop Manager on Duty and Pontoon Tour Operator.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of fundamental computer skills, including operation of a point-of-sale system.
Skills
- Excellent customer service skills.
- First Aid, CPR, and AED certifications (training classes available).

Schedule
Work hours include weekdays, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Facilities are closed during the winter months (generally October - April).
Pay
- Boat Dock Hand: Starting at $15.45/hr.
- Boat Shop Manager on Duty: Starting at $15.45/hr, with a range of $15.45 - $18.72/hr.
- Pontoon Tour Operator: Starting at $15.45 - $18.72/hr.
Supplemental Information
May be subject to medical, drug, and alcohol testing. These positions are seasonal (part-time) and do not include benefits. Pay rates are based on experience and qualifications. Availability to work Memorial Day, 4th of July, and Labor Day strongly preferred. Applicant’s ages 16-17 require a work permit. All selected candidates must display excellent customer service skills, attain First Aid, CPR, and AED certifications (training classes available), and attend in-house orientation. Limited Benefits For Seasonal Employees Health Insurance Plans You are eligible for specific health insurance benefits if you worked, on average, 30 hours per week during your first 12 months of employment or from October 3rd to October 2nd each subsequent period following your first 12 months of employment. This equates to 1,560 hours over a 12-month period. If and when you are eligible for benefits, you will receive notification directly from the Health & Benefits Office.
