What You'll Help With
- Assists in coordinating and providing individualized lactation care for patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
- Utilizes delegation and critical thinking skills to provide quality service through a team-oriented, collaborative approach to patient care.
- Affirms breastfeeding for optimal patient outcomes for mother/infant dyads as appropriate to service area.
- Ensures complete, accurate, and timely documentation of care.
- Collaborates with members of the healthcare team, patients, and families to develop, implement, and evaluate an age-specific interdisciplinary plan of care.
- Identifies and incorporates patient/family educational needs into the plan of care and documents appropriately.
- Demonstrates the role of patient advocate, protector of patients' rights, and provider of psychological/social/cultural support.
- Applies knowledge of growth and development to appropriately care for patients served.
- Uses and cares for breastfeeding equipment and devices appropriately.
- Completes appropriate activities related to the rental or sale of all items in the Lactation Retail Center.
- Maintains professional conduct and practices in an ethical manner, accountable for professional actions and legal responsibilities.
- Maintains and expands knowledge and skills by participating in continuing education activities.
- Obtains certification no later than 2 years after employment. Maintains current IBCLC.
- Determines and performs within clinical, leadership, and/or education pathways to support evidence-based, quality patient care service and performance improvement.
- Exhibits clinical expertise in rapidly changing circumstances.
- Plans strategies to reduce length of stay, turn around time, resource consumption, and improve patient outcomes.
- Functions as a role model for clinical practice to coworkers, students, and physicians.
- Manages resources, establishes priorities, and modifies the environment to meet patient care needs.
- Completes manager/director predetermined projects within specified time frame and according to pre-established guidelines.
- Uses problem-solving methods to facilitate resolution to patient and personnel situations that present in the work area.
What We Require
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
- One year maternal/child experience in an acute care setting in which lactation skills were utilized is required. Three years are preferred.
- RN required: IBCLC required within the first 12 months of hire into this position.
- Must successfully complete orientation and competency requirements.
- Must obtain/maintain CPR.
Compensation
