About the role
Reporting to the Lead Counsel - Labor & Employment Law, the Labor & Employment Law Attorney will provide day-to-day legal counsel on a company-wide basis and work closely with our Human Resources department (HR) to ensure complete compliance in our employment practices.
Responsibilities
- Provide global support and legal counsel to HR and other global business partners.
- Proactively engage with business partners to develop a trusted advisor relationship.
- Learn and stay apprised of the nature of the business, priorities and challenges.
- Serve as a thought leader on key projects.
- Provide pragmatic advice and guidance that aligns with the company’s strategic objectives, risk tolerance and values.
- Advise U.S. HR personnel and other business partners on state and federal employment laws, including Title VII, ADA, FMLA, FLSA, ADEA and WARN; employment related claims; contract issues; common law claims; and non-competition/non-solicitation matters.
- Draft, interpret, and implement employment-related agreements and policies including offer letters, severance agreements, confidentiality agreements, settlement agreements, HR policies, and employee relations documentation.
- Assess employment training needs, develop training materials and provide training on labor & employment law issues to managers and HR professionals.
- Support due diligence, negotiation and implementation of M&A transactions with regard to labor and employment issues.
- Manage any administrative charges and complaints pending with the EEOC, DOL, NLRB and state agencies.
- Manage outside counsel, monitoring efficient use of their services and the practice area budget.
- Assist litigation counsel (in-house or external) as necessary in employment litigation, including fact finding and discovery.
- Monitor and respond to regulatory and legislative developments/changes/trends.
- Identify trends and plan for risks.
- Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Required Skills
- Juris Doctor Degree is required.
- Admission to the Bar of at least one state.
- 3+ years of employment law experience in a major law firm, advising private and public companies on sophisticated labor and employment matters, including M&A transaction matters OR 5+ years as an in house, employment lawyer at a large corporation.
- Employment litigation is a plus.
- Deep knowledge of employment law.
- Ability to identify risks, propose and execute on mitigation measures.
- Exceptional written and oral communication abilities.
- Demonstrated ability to work efficiently and effectively in a fast-paced environment, appropriately prioritizing high risk matters.
- Ability to manage multiple demands with energy, urgency and a positive attitude.
- Congfident, independent decision making, while still keeping stakeholders informed and involved as appropriate.
Basic Requirements
- Juris Doctor Degree is required.
- Admission to the Bar of at least one state.
- 3+ years of employment law experience.
