Labor and Delivery Nurse

About the role

As a Labor and Delivery Nurse, you will perform direct patient care within the scope of the Registered Nurse Practice Act, utilizing therapeutic communication in daily practice, maintaining a safe therapeutic environment, and identifying nursing problems as they relate to the individual needs of the patient. You will plan individualized patient care while utilizing an interdisciplinary approach, participate in performance improvement activities, and provide care that fosters the goals of the hospital’s mission and vision statement.

Responsibilities

• Utilize therapeutic communication in daily practice.
• Maintain a safe therapeutic environment.
• Identify nursing problems as they relate to the individual needs of the patient.
• Demonstrate age-specific knowledge of human growth and development, assessment, range of treatment, and care of patients.
• Ensure the privacy of patients and confidentiality of their Protected Health Information (PHI).
• Utilize the nursing process for individual care to meet the needs of patients and document all patient care.
• Perform technical skills, follow procedures, and show critical thinking.
• Provide care and coordinate participation that fosters the goals of the hospital’s mission and vision statement.

Requirements

• Degree from an accredited School of Professional Nursing (B.S. or A.S.).
• 1 year of RN experience required.
• Labor and Delivery experience highly preferred.

Qualifications

• BLS required within 6 months.
• ACLS required within 6 months.
• NRP required within 6 months.
• AWHONN basic, intermediate, and advanced within one year.
• CPI Training & Certification required within 6 months.
• Current licensure by Tennessee Board of Nursing or Compact State.
