About the role
We're seeking a dedicated Lab Support Specialist to join our team and help us deliver exceptional care to our patients and families. Key responsibilities include performing phlebotomy techniques, interpreting and transcribing physician orders, assisting in lab functions, and training new employees.
Responsibilities
- Recognize age-specific requirements and determine safe blood volumes.
- Work independently in various patient care settings including in-house, outpatient collection stations, Urgent Care/Emergency Department, Cath Lab, and medical imaging.
- Maintain patient safety by monitoring for adverse reactions and managing patient limitations such as post-mastectomy and dialysis access.
- Collect high-quality blood specimens in neonate infants, children, adolescents, adults, and the elderly, following proper procedures and equipment use.
- Accurately accession specimens into the Laboratory Information System and manage incoming specimens, ensuring compliance with laboratory requirements.
- Communicate effectively with technical staff and providers, ensuring accurate patient information is relayed.
- Travel to offsite patient locations, collect specimens, and communicate with physician practices regarding specimen collection, storage, and processing issues.
- Provide compassionate, patient-centered care aligned with Saratoga Hospital values and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to enhance health, healing, and service excellence.
- Document care and support operations using hospital systems and tools, and continuously seek opportunities to improve processes and support patient and staff satisfaction.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Prior phlebotomy experience preferred.
- Valid New York State driver’s license required.
- At least 21 years of age and approved to drive Saratoga Hospital vehicles.
- Certification or eligibility with a recognized board of registry recommended.
- Ability to organize priorities, multitask, and maintain composure in a fast-paced environment.
