About the role
We're seeking a dedicated Lab Support Specialist II to join our team and help deliver the high-quality, compassionate care our patients and families deserve. Key responsibilities include:
- Providing laboratory registration, preregistration, scheduling, requisition maintenance, and reference laboratory billing.
- Processing blood, cultures, and urine specimens, labeling samples, sorting and setting up batches of specimens, and performing send-out operations.
- Collecting blood samples for laboratory testing in various settings.
- Leading day-to-day activities in the absence of the department leader, managing inventory, and maintaining effective operations.
- Registering patient scripts, collecting demographic and insurance information, and inputting diagnosis codes.
- Scheduling phlebotomy services for outpatient locations, including home-draw services.
- Maintaining inventory control, preventing shortages, overstocked items, and expired materials.
- Communicating with patients, physician offices, floor staff, and reference laboratories through various means.
- Recognizing patient requirements, assessing adverse reactions, and determining medical emergencies.
- Obtaining blood specimens, maintaining specimen integrity, and processing them according to safety and storage requirements.
- Identifying diagnostic tests, processing laboratory charges, and performing point-of-care testing.
- Coordinating with other patient access teams to enhance the patient experience during specimen collection.
- Maintaining quality standards, providing training, and supporting organizational initiatives.
- Ensuring safety inspections, documenting findings, and recommending corrective actions.
- Maintaining customer service standards, fostering relationships, and resolving issues.
- Delivering compassionate, patient-centered care aligned with hospital values.
- Collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to support health, healing, and service excellence.
- Using hospital systems and tools to document care and support operations.
- Seeking opportunities to improve processes and support patient and staff satisfaction.
Requirements
Qualifications include:
- A high school diploma or equivalent.
- Six months of phlebotomy experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- A bachelor’s degree in a related field may be considered in lieu of patient care experience.
- A valid New York State driver’s license is required.
- Must be at least 21 years old and approved to drive Saratoga Hospital vehicles for shifts requiring travel for offsite specimen collection.
