Responsibilities
- Oversight of department activities
- Distribution/assignment of work
- Determination of priorities and scheduling of non-routine procedures
- Supervisory functions including interviewing, hiring, training, and staff development through performance evaluation and corrective counseling
- Performance of advanced/specialized tests and related laboratory techniques
- Duplicate work of others to confirm test results
- Re-evaluation of methodology and assisting in test interpretation
- Determine if further testing is needed or if tests should be repeated
- Check/approve specialized and problem reports for accuracy
- Initiate quality-control measures and monitor work for adherence to standards
- Perform duties of technologist as necessary due to absence or peak workload
- Complete special projects as requested (surveys, statistical reports, studies, research, etc.)
- Maintain laboratory areas and equipment in safe, functional, and sanitary condition
- Complete training and competency checklists as appropriate
- Adhere to CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and laboratory safety requirements
- Use personal protective equipment, engineering controls, and work practice controls as directed
- Answer questions from clients or other lab personnel
- Participate in government or regulatory agency inspections
Qualifications
- Minimum five (5) years full-time supervisory experience
- New York State Inspection Lab Requirements: Six (6) years clinical experience
- Prioritization of work and handling multiple tasks simultaneously
- Proven leadership and problem-solving skills
- Detail-oriented and able to work independently
- Interpersonal and communication skills necessary to deal courteously and effectively with employees, co-workers, and clients
- Ability to deal with client information in a confidential manner
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) and Laboratory Information Systems
- Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology (preferred)
- Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology or related field (required)
- ASCP Certification (preferred)
