Lab Supervisor

Responsibilities

• Oversight of department activities
• Distribution/assignment of work
• Determination of priorities and scheduling of non-routine procedures
• Supervisory functions including interviewing, hiring, training, and staff development through performance evaluation and corrective counseling
• Performance of advanced/specialized tests and related laboratory techniques
• Duplicate work of others to confirm test results
• Re-evaluation of methodology and assisting in test interpretation
• Determine if further testing is needed or if tests should be repeated
• Check/approve specialized and problem reports for accuracy
• Initiate quality-control measures and monitor work for adherence to standards
• Perform duties of technologist as necessary due to absence or peak workload
• Complete special projects as requested (surveys, statistical reports, studies, research, etc.)
• Maintain laboratory areas and equipment in safe, functional, and sanitary condition
• Complete training and competency checklists as appropriate
• Adhere to CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and laboratory safety requirements
• Use personal protective equipment, engineering controls, and work practice controls as directed
• Answer questions from clients or other lab personnel
• Participate in government or regulatory agency inspections

Qualifications

• Minimum five (5) years full-time supervisory experience
• New York State Inspection Lab Requirements: Six (6) years clinical experience
• Prioritization of work and handling multiple tasks simultaneously
• Proven leadership and problem-solving skills
• Detail-oriented and able to work independently
• Interpersonal and communication skills necessary to deal courteously and effectively with employees, co-workers, and clients
• Ability to deal with client information in a confidential manner
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) and Laboratory Information Systems
• Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology (preferred)
• Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology or related field (required)
• ASCP Certification (preferred)
