Lab Supervisor
About the role
Primary responsibility is with the accurate and timely performance of laboratory tests as assigned. In the absence of the Director of Laboratory Services, the most senior (most years service at Fairview Park Hospital) Supervisor is responsible for the overall operations of the laboratory. This includes providing and supervising high quality lab tests, quality control, preventive maintenance of equipment, computer activities, and collection of specimens.
Responsibilities
- Performs all tests in assigned lab section(s) with the highest possible accuracy and reliability.
- Trains in addition all lab tests or sections as required.
- Performs all Lab Section Management activities to include but not limited to: staff training and development, procedure implementation/monitoring, inventory management/control, quality control, performance improvement, proficiency testing, safety administration, productivity monitoring, and public relations.
- Absorbs the role of Medical Technologist Shift Supervisor or works under the direction of the Medical Technologist Shift Supervisor when required.
- Performs all related lab computer activities assigned.
- Maintains Position Descriptions / Performance Evaluations / Competency Assessment and supervises and performs evaluations of Phlebotomy Techs and Lab Outpatient Coordinator.
- Maintains work schedules and assignments for Med. Techs., Phlebotomy Techs. and Lab Outpatient Coordinator.
- Takes necessary action to assure this is a productive system.
- Maintains laboratory phlebotomy inventory system by assuring that computer system is kept updated weekly and physical inventories are reported in an accurate and timely manner.
- Assists with the marketing of laboratory services.
- Affirms that the Outpatient and SDS collection stations and Phlebotomy Tech areas are kept orderly and clean.
Qualifications
- (CLT/CLS) Clinical Laboratory Technologist/Scientist, or (MLT-State) Medical Lab Technician - State, or (MLS) Medical Laboratory Scientist, or (MT-AAB) Medical Technologist
- Associate Degree, or Bachelors Degree
- 3 years experience Required
