Junior Mortgage Loan Processor Team Lead
About the role
This is a hands-on leadership role for an experienced loan processing professional who's ready to step into a player-coach position. As the Junior Loan Processor Team Lead, you'll own the day-to-day execution of a team of ~10 Junior Loan Processors — keeping files moving, quality high, and your people developing. You know the mortgage process cold, and you're energized by teaching others how it works. You'll be the primary escalation point for your team on anything touching appraisals, title, homeowners insurance, and employment verifications — and you'll set the standard for how this work gets done at Tomo.
Responsibilities
- Directly supervise and support a team of ~10 Junior Loan Processors, providing day-to-day coaching, feedback, and prioritization guidance
- Onboard and train new team members on Tomo's systems, workflows, and mortgage fundamentals
- Maintain visibility into the team's full pipeline, ensuring files are progressing and nothing is aging or stalled
- Review team output for accuracy, completeness, and compliance before files advance to underwriting
- Identify patterns in errors or delays and proactively address them through coaching or process adjustment
- Serve as the team's in-house expert on appraisals, title, homeowners insurance (HOI), and employment/income verifications
- Troubleshoot complex third-party issues — including appraisal escalations, title curative matters, HOI coverage gaps, and VOE discrepancies — with a clear understanding of how each impacts loan eligibility and timing
- Stay current on agency guidelines and investor overlays as they relate to third-party documentation requirements
Requirements
3–5+ years of mortgage loan processing experience, with strong hands-on knowledge of the full loan cycle
Deep familiarity with appraisals (order management, review, escalations), title (commitments, curative, endorsements), HOI (coverage requirements, binders, declarations), and employment verifications (written/verbal VOEs, 4506-C, self-employment docs)
A natural teacher — you get energy from helping others grow, not just doing the work yourself
Highly organized with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities across a team
Clear, direct communicator — comfortable giving feedback, setting expectations, and escalating when needed
Experience with LOS platforms (Encompass or similar); comfortable learning new systems
Prior lead or supervisory experience a plus, but not required if you're ready to step into it
