About the Role
This position supports the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Office of Human Capital (OHC), Human Resources Operations Center (HROC). As a Junior Human Resource Specialist, you will apply HR skills to assist managers, program staff, and customers on a wide range of HR topics, including staffing, classification, processing, benefits, recruitment, compensation, SES programs, work-life programs, policy, and employee and labor relations.
Responsibilities
- Process personnel and payroll actions, key payroll documents, and leave audits.
- Create vacancy, retirement, and payroll folders.
- Research waiver and hearing requests.
- Scan documents into various personnel record systems.
- Assist with drafting Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Process personal liability insurance reimbursement claims.
- Initiate tentative selection notifications, notice of results, or disposition letters.
- Research and compile information on federal HR topics.
- Respond to and provide general HR guidance to applicants and staff; maintain employee files.
- Provide administrative support to managers and program staff, including:
- Manage and coordinate calendars.
- Screen phone calls and assist visitors.
- Make travel arrangements.
- Coordinate conference/meeting arrangements.
- Prepare agendas, correspondence, and spreadsheets.
- Open and route incoming mail.
- Create, file, and maintain files in accordance with agency guidelines.
- Monitor office supply inventories.
- Upload documents to SharePoint.
- Process complex cases involving pay, leave, time and attendance administration, waivers, and Federal Erroneous Retirement Coverage Correction Act (FERCCA) cases for agency employees.
- Conduct desk audits, review management requests for position management and classification actions, and prepare evaluation reports.
- Assist in developing guidance and training materials for managers and employees.
- Resolve pay-setting errors and discrepancies.
- Provide advice on base pay, overtime, or leave entitlements.
