General Statement of Duties

The Judicial Specialist 2 is responsible for preparing and processing court documents, performing judicial procedures, and working with the court case management system.

Examples Of Job Duties

  • Using the case management system to open, docket, and close cases based on judgment details.
  • Providing customer service information to pro se litigants.
  • Opening cases by determining case type/cause of action and assessing and receiving filing fees if required.
  • Docketing cases by reviewing documents and entering data, scanning documents, and linking related scanned images.
  • Closing cases by determining and entering closing events, disposition types, and judgment details.
  • Assessing, receiving, recording, and reconciling monies, and preparing bank deposits.
  • Processing, maintaining, and distributing documents, files, and case materials.
  • Reviewing incoming filings for format, signatures, event codes, and filing fees.
  • Processing and expediting orders of protection.
  • Disbursing bond payments and preparing and maintaining bond reports.
  • Preparing, proofreading, editing, and mailing out documents such as notices and final orders.
  • Executing on case hearings, including orders to show cause, bench warrants, recusals, excusals, pleadings, and rule extensions.
  • Maintaining cash till and ensuring court fees are accurately assessed, paid, receipted, and correctly recorded in the case management system.
  • Providing public case information to parties, attorneys, law enforcement agencies, and other outside agencies.
  • Preparing alpha list, random list, voir dire sheet, and seating chart for jury trials.
  • Organizing case files for microfilming, archiving, and destruction.
  • Preparing exhibits and hard copy case files.
  • Researching automated, hard copy, and microfiche files for case status data.
  • Certifying and preparing court records, tapes, logs, and exhibits for cases on appeal to higher courts.
  • Serving as a court monitor.
  • Managing jury trial calendar requests for judges to schedule upcoming jury trials.
  • Advising internal staff on jury procedures, when jurors are reporting, and updates on specific trials.
  • Serving as a courtroom clerk, producing Instant J&Ss, and obtaining signatures from the parties/counsel of record, assigned judge, file, and distribute.
  • Providing support to other magistrate or district courts within the judicial district.
  • Coordinating program participation with Specialty Programs within the Court.
  • Accepting, maintaining, and filing court exhibits, which may include hazardous and/or dangerous items.
  • Gathering, delivering, and filing recordings, receipts for logs, and exhibits to provide accurate record-keeping procedures.
  • Troubleshooting recording equipment, running updates, and maintaining technical logs.
  • Retaining case material and marking for identification logs, files, and safeguarding evidence as a public, sequestered, or sealed exhibit.
  • Acting as a liaison between court personnel, litigants, or attorneys to advance court proceedings.
