About the role
The Third Circuit Court of the 20th Judicial District of Tennessee is seeking a full-time Judicial Assistant with a start date of September 1, 2026. The position is 37.5 hours per week.
Responsibilities
- Clerk and assist in preparation of Child Support, ID, Default, Show Cause, Case Management, Status Conference and Motion Dockets and Binders
- Process Orders from all matters with the exception of Pro Se Docket matters, Case Management, Adoptions, or Contested Trial dockets
- Monitor 3rd Circuit queue for orders and forward to appropriate staff member
- Monitor 3rd Circuit queue for Emergency/TRO Petitions and Orders and work with Judge in reviewing and processing the same
- Assist in the management and maintenance of the dormant case dismissal system
- Manage Administrative matters in the office (Supplies, office equipment, officer set up, aesthetics, etc.)
- Assist Special Master with Employee Relations and Employee Management (Office scheduling, vacation/time off request, etc.)
- Supervise Interns and/or law clerks (Law school students)
- Manage and maintain hearing and trial calendars
- Management and maintaining office and bar relations
- Request interpreters as needed and process court interpreter forms
- Review phone messages and forward to the appropriate staff member
- Craft Voicemail messages for phones and manage the phone system ( i.e. placing phones on night or after-hours mode, etc.)
- Operate as liaison between chambers and other metro and state offices
- Maintain positive and friendly communication and interactions with anyone who interfaces with the Office
- Continuously seek out opportunities for professional and personal development
- Continuous provide feedback to the Judge of concerns, suggestions, or Complaints
- Be present and/or readily available for work related matters Monday - Thursday, 8:00 AM until 4:30 PM, Friday, 8:00 AM until 3:00PM (including during WFH time and excluding reasonable and lawful breaks)
- Manage Courtroom technology for virtual participants for dockets that you will clerk
- Assist in ensuring that phones are properly attended to during work hours
- Assist with various office tasks as needs arise and as requested
- Must be an U.S. citizen or eligible to work in the United States
- Must comply with confidentiality requirements, including handling confidential information in a variety of contexts
- Understand and accept that all Employees of the Third Circuit Court are “at will” employees and can be terminated at any time with or without cause
Qualifications
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Word
- Proficiency in Adobe, and working with PDF Documents
- Familiarity with the Tennessee Rules of Civil and Criminal Procedure, Title 36 of the Tennessee Code Annotated, and Court Procedures
- Superior research and writing skills
- Strong Organizational skills
- Self-motivated with the ability to manage time effectively, independently establish priorities, juggle competing demands, meet tight deadlines, and perform well under pressure, while working independently under limited guidance and/or direction
- Exceptional ability to communicate, articulate, and relate to co workers and others with professionalism and integrity
- Proficient typing and personal computer skills
